Position Overview:
The Surface Rotary and RC Driller will be responsible for operating rotary and reverse circulation (RC) drilling rigs, performing drilling operations for exploration, geotechnical, and mining projects. This role requires expertise in both rotary and RC drilling techniques, safety practices, and equipment maintenance. The driller will be expected to work effectively with a team, ensure the safe operation of equipment, and meet the requirements of project specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
•Operate and maintain surface rotary and RC drilling rigs and associated equipment.
•Conduct drilling operations, including setup, operation, and rig down, ensuring safety and efficiency at all times.
•Drill, sample, and core rock and soil, ensuring proper recovery and accurate reporting of results.
•Monitor and document drilling progress, sample recovery, and operational data to meet project specifications.
•Perform routine maintenance on drilling equipment, including mechanical and hydraulic repairs as needed.
•Manage and operate the drill string, pumps, compressors, and auxiliary equipment, ensuring smooth operation.
•Maintain high safety standards by complying with MSHA and OSHA regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe operating procedures.
•Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, and operational issues that arise during drilling.
•Collaborate with the drilling crew and project team to complete tasks safely and on time.
•Assist in the training and development of junior drillers and crew members.
•Ensure proper handling and storage of drill samples and environmental data.
•Assist in the transportation and mobilization of drilling rigs and equipment to various sites.
•Travel to remote job sites, often working in challenging conditions.
Qualifications:
•Proven experience in surface rotary and/or RC drilling operations.
•Strong knowledge of rotary and RC drilling equipment and techniques, including drilling parameters, operations, and sample collection.
•In-depth understanding of MSHA and OSHA safety standards and industry best practices.
•Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical and hydraulic issues on-site.
•Experience in working with various rotary and RC drilling rigs and equipment.
•Ability to work in remote, challenging, or high-altitude environments with minimal supervision.
•Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
•Experience with rig maintenance, repairs, and general troubleshooting.
•Willingness to work long hours, 12 hours per day up to 20 days in a row.
•Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record; a commercial driver’s license (CDL) is a plus.
