Position Overview:

The Underground Rotary and Percussive Driller will be responsible for operating rotary and percussive drilling rigs in underground mining environments. This role requires a deep understanding of drilling techniques, equipment, and safety protocols. The successful candidate will be expected to perform high-quality drilling operations, ensure the safe and efficient operation of equipment, and contribute to the success of our underground projects.


Key Responsibilities:

Operate underground rotary and percussive drilling rigs for mining, exploration, and geotechnical drilling projects.
Conduct drilling, blasting hole preparation, and sampling operations according to project specifications and safety guidelines.
Monitor drilling progress, adjust drilling parameters as needed, and ensure accurate sample recovery and core integrity.
Perform routine inspections and maintenance on drilling equipment, ensuring all rigs are in optimal working condition.
Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and operational issues on-site to minimize downtime and maintain drilling efficiency.
Collaborate with the drilling crew, mine engineers, and project managers to ensure timely and accurate project delivery.
Maintain compliance with MSHA safety standards, ensuring safe practices and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Document and report on drilling progress, core recovery, operational issues, and safety concerns.
Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of drill cuttings, samples, and waste materials.
Train and mentor junior drillers, providing guidance to enhance the team’s overall performance.
Follow site-specific safety and operational protocols, actively participating in safety meetings and hazard identification.
Travel to remote underground job sites, working in various challenging conditions, including confined spaces.


Qualifications:

Extensive experience as an underground driller, specifically with rotary and percussive drilling rigs.
Strong understanding of underground drilling techniques, including rotary and percussive methods, and equipment operation.
Proven ability to operate drilling equipment efficiently while ensuring safety, accuracy, and adherence to project timelines.
Experience working in underground mining, exploration, or geotechnical drilling projects.
In-depth knowledge of MSHA regulations and industry best practices for safety.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment and operational issues.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating effectively with colleagues and project teams.
Strong communication skills for documenting work and reporting progress to project managers and other team members.
Willingness to work in physically demanding and remote environments, including confined spaces and extreme conditions.
Valid driver’s license and the ability to operate vehicles to remote sites; a commercial driver’s license (CDL) is a plus.
