The supervisor, accounting adviser directs the day-to-day gas accounting and reporting functions for MidAmerican Energy Company and provides oversight and assistance to the accounts payable department that processes invoices for multiple platforms (i.e. MEC, MCG, BHE Renewables, BHE Transmission, etc.). Direct responsibilities include the calculation of purchased adjustment clauses including preparation of annual filings, written and oral testimony and responses to regulatory data requests. Regularly meets with regulators, consumer advocates and their staffs. Prepares monthly journal entries and projected margins; reviews budgets and forecasts and analyzes variances in actual financial results; reviews and maintains internal controls for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance requirements; conducts financial and business related studies; provides leadership role in special projects related to changes in accounting, policies and procedures.
Directs the activities associated with the day-to-day accounting and reporting functions including prioritization of activities, accounting guidance, coordination and review of regulatory and internal/external audit requests, implementation of new/revised accounting standards, procedures and/or internal controls and cross-training support. (20%) Provide daily oversight and assistance to the accounts payable group. (15%) Calculate monthly purchase adjustment rates, track and record riders and prepare supporting journal entries. (15%) Report, analyze and interpret financial, regulatory and operating data for management and corporate functions. Such reporting analysis and interpretation may include product margin, cost analysis, profitability analysis, regional geographic assessments, pricing analysis, and any other ad-hoc analysis of interest to management and business unit leaders. (10%) Compile and prepare information and testimony for regulatory filings and financial reporting. (10%) Oversee documentation of internal controls and related Sarbanes Oxley requirements. (10%) Provide accounting assistance to personnel and various departments throughout the organization. (10%) Present results of research and analyses and provide recommendations in written and verbal presentation formats. Use PC based systems and software to compile and prepare reports, graphs, and charts of data developed to include in presentations. (5%) Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business; master of business administration or certified public accountant preferred. Seven years of related experience, including two years in a senior technical/leadership role. Superior research and analytical skills with experience in financial and regulatory analyses. Advanced leadership skills to provide direction and guidance to individuals and/or teams toward the achievement of goals. Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information. Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to develop and conduct presentations. Strong project management skills; the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Strong personal computer skills; proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, DB2 and PowerPoint; demonstrated ability to understand and utilize computer systems and applications for analysis.
