Position Summary:
PSS Industrial Group is seeking a highly motivated Summer Intern with a background in mining or mining engineering to lead a strategic research project focused on the mining industry. The goal is to map out industry opportunities, understand the current and future needs of mining customers, and develop actionable strategies to help PSS grow its presence in this sector. This project will require gathering and organizing insights through internal interviews, external research, and competitive analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
Mining Industry Research and Mapping:
•Conduct interviews with internal stakeholders to gather existing knowledge on PSS’s current mining involvement.
•Map large, medium, and small mining operations across North America.
•Document vendor requirements (MSAs, safety protocols, pricing structures, system requirements) for major mining customers.
•Identify key challenges mining companies face and their top product and service needs related to PSS’s portfolio.
•Develop organizational charts highlighting decision makers and influencers in Safety, Operations, Engineering, and Procurement functions.
Customer Prioritization and Strategy Development:
•Analyze and recommend which customer segments (large, medium, or small operations) offer the best growth potential for PSS.
•Complete account profiles for three key mining customers, including must-have requirements, value proposition suggestions, decision-making structures, and potential barriers to entry.
Competitive Landscape Analysis:
•Identify key competitors in mining supply and their strengths with each customer target.
•Overlay PSS’s current product and service offering against mining customer needs.
•Identify additional products or vendor partnerships PSS should pursue to strengthen our mining presence.
Future Trends and Technology Watch:
•Research emerging technologies and automation trends in mining (e.g., autonomous heavy equipment, advanced safety technologies).
•Track industry developments that could impact procurement or operational decisions in mining companies.
Qualifications:
•Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Mining Engineering, Mining Management, or a closely related field.
•Field experience in mining operations preferred; corporate experience is a plus.
•Strong organizational and research skills with the ability to synthesize large volumes of information.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); GIS or mapping skills are a plus.
•Curiosity, initiative, and a passion for mining operations and industry growth strategy.
Internship Deliverables:
•Industry landscape report with mining account mapping and internal knowledge consolidation.
•Competitor analysis report and product/service gap analysis.
•Final strategic recommendation report and executive presentation to PSS leadership.
