We’re looking for a Substation Technician III to join our team. In this role, you’ll perform advanced structural and electrical work inside high-voltage substations. You’ll lead complex installations, operate specialized tools with expert precision, and ensure work meets RMS and industry standards. You’ll also mentor junior technicians, assist with project planning, and contribute to safe, efficient job site operations.
- Carry out advanced installations and modifications with minimal supervision
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications independently
- Assemble and install high-voltage equipment such as circuit switchers and motor-operated switches
- Plan and execute grounding system installations across varied site conditions
- Fabricate and install bus systems and conduit layouts with precise measurements
- Utilize hypress tools, hydraulic benders, magnetic drills, and bus punches at an expert level
- Inspect high-voltage terminations and connections for quality compliance
- Uphold strict safety and efficiency standards on all job sites
- Provide guidance and on-the-job training to less experienced technicians
- Assist crew leads with scheduling, material preparation, and technical problem-solving
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and project managers on progress and challenges
- Support project documentation and verify completed work- 3–5+ years of experience performing non-NEC structural and electrical work in high-voltage substations
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, circuitry, and safety regulations
- Skilled in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and blueprints
- Clear verbal and written communication abilities for internal and external interactions
- Proven time management skills with the ability to prioritize competing tasks
- Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests
- Willing to travel frequently (minimum 80%), including overnight stays and emergency call-outs
- Must complete annual safety training, which may require out-of-state travel
- Capable of lifting 50+ lbs, climbing, working at heights, and performing physically demanding tasks- Proficiency in English for reading, writing, speaking, and documentation
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Power Systems, or Mechanical Engineering
- NETA Level 2, 3, or 4 certification
- Experience training or leading field crews
