Position Summary: The Substation Heavy Equipment Operator’s primary role is to operate heavy machinery in he construction, maintenance, and repair of substations and related equipment.
Essential Functions:
•Work safely while performing construction, maintenance and/or repair work of substation systems.
•Assist in the transporting, installation, and/or removal of substation structures, equipment, and hardware, electrical conductors, wire, and cable.
•Capable of or learning to operate various types of heavy equipment:
+ Bucket, derrick and boom trucks
+ Backhoes, excavators and skid steer loaders
+ Articulating Man-lifts
+ Pressure Diggers
+ Trenchers
+ Track Crawler Loader/Backhoe
+ Rough Terrain Telescopic Forklifts
•Read and interpret profile, blueprints, maps, or other written instructions for completion of assigned tasks.
•Does all other related work as required to complete the job.
Responsible for maintaining company vehicles in good working condition.
Minimum Requirements:
•A minimum of 2 years of experience
•Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
•Able to read and understand simple blueprints, maps, and diagrams.
•Able to identify energized high and low voltage lines.
•Basic knowledge in electricity.
•Knowledge of safety hazards inherent in working in close proximity to energized high and low voltage lines and equipment.
•Knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Code as it relates to the operation of heavy equipment in the state the job is located.
•Must supply own personal hand tools required by the company for this work.
•Must supply own safety toed work boots.
•Must be capable of lifting in excess of 50 lbs
•Capable of receiving and following directions.
•Must possess or be capable of obtaining a Commercial Drivers’ License.
•Capable of working at heights and/or confined spaces.
•Understands minimum approach distance.
•Capable of checking voltage.
•Willing to work over-time or long hours during emergency conditions and/or when requested. Schedules can change frequently and with short notice.
•Capable of following Company safety rules and policies.
Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
