This position is a working supervisor position responsible for performing Linesperson duties, plus supervise crew members on a continuing basis to carry out a given work program under the District Supervisor, while holding safety, quality, and quantity of work as a priority to maintain a high level of system reliability and customer service.

The successful candidate may be required to report to other work centres. The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Elexicon Energy Inc. Perform all aspects of the Powerline Technician job document, plus:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Co-ordinate and supervise the job site activities of the crew for the most efficient job completion with attention to safety, performance, productivity, and customer service expectations for all line operations work including emergency response, reactive maintenance, planned projects and customer connections.

Develop and maintain a positive interest in incident free performance and ensure a safe work environment. Assess risks and identify hazards within job sites. Communicate with crew members for input through tailboard discussions. Incorporate application of rules, procedures, corporate policies and safe work practices into daily work to include effective barriers and controls as mitigation. Helps to resolve substandard acts, conditions, and crew member concerns.
Understand and keep within safe limitations of tools, equipment and materials used and must understand all work associated techniques and practices. Ensure crew members apply training as required. Recommend modifications of work methods to improve safety and performance.
Plan work issued by the District Supervisor; verify materials, tools, equipment, and PPE to be employed for the jobs and tasks. Review construction prints and standards with all crew members. Ensure job plans are followed as required and any changes to plan are recognized, communicated, and documented forthwith.
Acquire locates, collaborate with technicians, and communicate with contractors and other stakeholders that will be involved with the project(s).
Schedule, monitor and administer the specific work projects during construction and energization stages ensuring safety, timeliness, cost, and quality targets are achieved. As well as compliance with regulation 22/04
Provide progress reports to the supervisor and advise on applicable methods or solutions to mitigate performance and productivity issues.
Determine access to site, traffic conditions and outage requirements including application for holding work protection as per the UWPC.
Complete work with efficient productivity without assuming additional risks or short cuts, as designed, and engineered. Identify the need for any specialized equipment.
Ensure the quality of workmanship and materials used by crew members maintains the standards of safety, productivity, quality, and reliability to meet departmental and customer service expectations. Address concerns and escalate to the supervisor for review and support.
Encourage crew mentoring, morale, and constructive feedback to enhance skill development and positive interpersonal behaviors. Be able to demonstrate work applications, provide instruction, assign work according to worker capabilities and training level and assess performance.
Abide by applicable corporate policies, department direction and collective agreement language related to local and basic work conditions.
Other duties as required may be considered part of these responsibilities.


KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Strong leadership skills; possess a sense of mission with a high priority for safety and results; displays professional ethics; understands and utilizes the actions and behaviors necessary to deliver customer service.
Acts resourcefully and communicates effectively to empower and encourage crew members in their decisions, performance, and development.
Demonstrated solid overhead/underground maintenance and construction experience in distribution systems using key organization, communication and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent knowledge of safety rules, operating procedures, and safe work practices.
Proficient with various computer systems/applications including Microsoft Office applications and general office automation tools.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High School diploma or equivalent
Journeyperson Lineperson / Powerline Technician Certification (Red Seal certification is preferred)
Minimum 5 years’ of proven experience in the Linesperson trade.
Class DZ driver’s license (AZ preferred)
Demonstrated training certification and/or knowledge and understanding of the following:
CPR/First Aid Certification
Utility Work Protection Code Certification
Overhead and Underground Proficiency
Live line tool and rubber glove techniques
Construction Verification Program
Elexicon’s Construction Standards
Optional certifications that may be applicable:
Bare hand techniques
Lift Truck Certification
Boat Safety - Boat Operators License
Helicopter Safety course
ATV Training
Effective Supervision
Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness
Chainsaw Operation
Propane Certification
