Position: Structural Engineer


Department: Composites Manufacturing and Engineering


Location: Richmond, B.C., Canada


Reports to: Manager, Composites Development Engineering

Whitewater’s Composites Manufacturing and Engineering department is looking for a Structural Engineer to join their team! Reporting to the Manager, Composites Development Engineering, you will be an integral member of the team and responsible to support the manufacturing by composite design & analysis of new and existing products and components. The technical support will be provided to functional groups involved with the entire spectrum of the product lifecycle. Daily duties can include information gathering, performing research, conducting experiments, prototyping, consulting, designing, and documenting activities throughout analysis to find timely, efficient, cost-effective solutions to manufacturing challenges that arise.


YOUR ROLE

Determine design specifications in response to composites component’s requirements and ensure compliancy within WWI composites design and manufacturing.
Lead structural design of composites components relating to Waterpark construction and operation in accordance with governing standards while coordinating with project managers to meet project deliverables as per client’s expectations.
Review ongoing composite product performance and maintain the integrity of product design and manufacturing.
Generate, review, approve (if applicable), and release engineering deliverables such as CAD models, engineering drawings, specification documents, and other engineering reports for new and standard products following best engineering and design practices.
Perform stress analysis/calculation and run simulation (FEA) as necessary.
Lead and participate in risk assessments (such as hazard analysis and Failure Mode Effects Analysis – FMEA) as necessary.
Perform new product development and validation as per departmental procedure and guidelines.
Perform site visits as required to evaluate engineering and design-related issues for composites products to determine the root cause and provide corrective actions based on analytical reports generated.
Write, publish, approve, and support the execution of Engineering Change Requests (ECR), Engineering Change Orders (ECO), Non-Compliance Reporting (NCR), and Opportunity for Improvement (OFI) procedures.
Contribute to the development of departmental standard of process with respect to efficiency and quality improvements while taking part in metric generation and continuous improvement initiatives.


YOU BRING

Minimum educational requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering with minimum 3 years of significant post-graduation engineering experience.
Must be legally eligible to work in Canada with minimum to no travel restrictions.
P. Eng. Designation or eligibility to register with EGBC immediately.
Excellent communication skills in verbal and written form with capabilities to lead and run technical meetings is required.
Proficiency with FEA and the associated procedures (pre and post analysis) along with ability to make structural engineering assessment is a must.
Familiarity with International Building Code (IBC), ASCE-7, US & European standards for design of steel, wood, and concrete is considered an asset.
Knowledge of composites design, analysis, manufacturing, and quality control is considered a strong asset.
Familiarity with composites design standards such as ASME RPT-1, EN 13121, DIN 18820, and CMH-17 in an asset.
Proficiency with SolidWorks and PDM systems is a must.
Strong knowledge and experience of material and process qualification is considered an asset.
Knowledge about repair of composites components considered an asset.
Ability to develop and maintain effective internal working relationships with all levels in the organization and external clients.
Able to work both in a team/matrix environment and independently with minimal supervision.
Creative individual capable of thinking outside-the-box for finding solutions to problems.
