Central San, a progressive public utility, is seeking up to three Limited Duration Staff Engineers that are expected to last between four and five years.
This position is the entry-level classification in the professional engineering series. Assigned to the Capital Projects Division of the Engineering and Technical Services Department, this position will perform entry level professional engineering work in the planning, design, investigation, and construction of the District's wastewater treatment plant, collection system, and related facilities.
After successful completion of twenty-four months as a Staff Engineer, and with a passing score on an examination, the Staff Engineer may be promoted to an Assistant Engineer currently $135,325.84- $163,713.42 annually.

Typical duties include:
- Assisting in detailed and sophisticated studies to define and solve engineering problems.
- Writing specifications, preparing engineering drawings, and calculating project cost estimates.
- Performing engineering analyses and calculations.
- Preparing clear and concise technical reports.
- Reviewing plans and shop drawings to ensure compliance with District standards and specifications.
- Performing field investigations for design and construction inspections.
Experience:
None required.
Education:
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major work in engineering or a closely related field.
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of an Engineering-In-Training Certificate is desirable.

The most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process. Human Resources shall determine the examination steps to be used for this recruitment. The steps may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, practical examination, application screening, and/or oral board examination. One or more of these steps may be used and in any order. At the end of the testing process, candidates passing all of the examination steps will have their names placed on a Limited Duration eligibility list. The list is valid for six months and may be extended up to an additional six months at the request of the hiring department. The list may be used to fill future limited duration positions in the classification.

Successful candidates not currently employed in regular status by the District must pass a pre-employment physical examination to be considered for appointment.
