In this strategic and highly cross-functional role, you will drive the product vision, roadmap, and execution for a scalable, future-proof battery storage system that meets the evolving needs of homeowners, installers, and utility partners. This is a rare opportunity to shape the foundational architecture and customer experience of Generac’s future storage portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Shape the future platform: Own the product vision for Generac’s next-generation residential energy storage platform, grounded in customer needs, market dynamics, and technical innovation.
- Drive roadmaps: Develop and maintain a multi-year product roadmap, aligning with business strategy, engineering capabilities, and evolving regulatory requirements.
- Translate insights into action: Convert input from customers, installers, and grid operators into clear product requirements (MRDs, PRDs), use cases, and value propositions.
- Lead cross-functional development: Partner with hardware, firmware, software, UX, regulatory, and operations teams to deliver solutions from concept through launch.
- Balance performance & design: Collaborate with industrial design and mechanical engineering to ensure products are high-performing, manufacturable, and aesthetically appealing.
- Define system-level architecture: Drive requirements around inverter-battery integration, communications, power classes, and enclosure design.
- Evaluate trade-offs: Weigh platform scalability, cost, reliability, compliance (UL 9540/1741/9540A, NEC), and supply chain flexibility to guide decision-making.
- Support multiple products: While focused on next-gen development, contribute to features and technical needs across current products to ensure portfolio success.
- Enable go-to-market success: Collaborate with sales, marketing, and field support to define positioning, messaging, and launch readiness.
- Stay ahead of the industry: Track competitive offerings, standards, and market shifts to ensure Generac leads in innovation and customer value.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of product management or closely related experience, ideally with 1–3 years in energy storage, solar, or power electronics.- Background in systems engineering, field applications engineering, or firmware/hardware development with transition into product strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to ship complex hardware + software systems from concept through production.- Technical fluency with battery systems, inverters, EMS platforms, and grid interconnection requirements.
- Experience with product lifecycle tools (Jira, Confluence, PLM systems).
- Master’s degree in Engineering or MBA.
- Familiarity with UL 9540, IEEE 1547, NEC, NFPA 855, and other energy codes.
- Experience collaborating with contract manufacturers or ODMs on platform development.
- Knowledge of U.S. residential energy markets, DER aggregation, or VPP programs.
- Strong technical foundation paired with a product management mindset.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to also dive into technical details when needed.
- Excellent communication skills with both engineering teams and executives.
- Customer-centric approach — able to translate technical complexity into clear value.
- Comfortable working across hardware, firmware, and software domains.
- Thrives in ambiguity, fast-moving projects, and a small, high-impact team environment.
