Job Description for Sr Controls Systems Engineer

The Senior Controls Engineer will lead the design, development, implementation, testing, startup, and tuning of process control and automation projects across multiple industries. This role requires advanced technical expertise, leadership in project execution, and the ability to mentor junior engineers.
- Lead project teams in all phases of controls engineering projects, from concept to commissioning.
- Oversee development of control system architecture, control strategies, SCADA designs, and cybersecurity integration.
- Act as technical lead for complex troubleshooting, network architecture development, and advanced programming.
- Provide mentorship and technical training to Controls Engineers and technicians.
- Manage client relationships, ensuring expectations are met or exceeded.
- Serve as Project Manager when assigned, responsible for budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables, including network drawings, I/O lists, loop sheets, enclosure layouts, and control narratives.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry codes, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Conduct site evaluations, feasibility studies, cost estimating, and proposal preparation.
- Support Maintenance and Operations with advanced diagnostics and optimization.
- Participate in business development activities, including proposal presentations and technical consultations.
- Represent L.L. Blue Engineering in professional organizations and at industry events.- 10+ years of hands-on controls engineering experience in industrial plant environments.
- Proven expertise with Allen-Bradley platforms (Studio5000, RSLogix5000, FactoryTalk View SE, RSLinx) and hardware (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix, FlexIO, Panelview).
- Advanced experience with one or more DCS platforms: Foxboro, Emerson DeltaV, Emerson Ovation, GE Mark 6e, Siemens PCS-7.
- Strong proficiency in PLC/DCS programming, SCADA design, control system network architecture, and cybersecurity integration.
- Deep understanding of instrumentation design, P&IDs, logic diagrams, operator interface layouts, and industry standards (ISA, NFPA/NEC, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA).
- Proficiency in industrial networking protocols: Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, ModbusTCP, ISA100, WirelessHART, etc.
- Experience leading multi-discipline project teams and mentoring engineers.
- Experience in Water/Wastewater, Power, or Chemical industries preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, leadership presence, and client-facing communication abilities.
- Ability to travel regionally up to 25%, with flexibility for emergency support.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder, able to obtain required security clearances.

- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field from an accredited institution.
- Advanced technical certifications in controls engineering or ICS cybersecurity are a plus.
- Must be able to work in industrial plant or construction environments.
- Frequent standing, walking, and climbing ladders.
- May require lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Possible exposure to noise, dust, and temperature variations.
- May require occasional overtime, evening, or weekend work.
