We are currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our Commercial Management team!
Reporting to the Director, Commercial, PJM, the Sr. Specialist, Commercial, PJM is accountable for proactively identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities for existing assets, both short- and long-term. You will develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to preserve, improve, and optimize asset value, including delivering value-add targets for each assigned asset and contributing to strategic asset management plans.
You will manage day-to-day relationships with applicable counterparties and joint venture partners, working independently or in coordination with Operations and Commodity Trading on asset optimization, issue resolution, and dispute management. As the lead point of contact for asset-related matters, you will engage with Legal, Regulatory, Finance, Environmental, and external regulatory agencies and government entities. Additionally, you will monitor market developments, assess their impact on asset value, and collaborate with internal teams to develop and implement strategies that preserve and enhance asset value across the broader portfolio.
You will contribute to our team by:
- Lead and coordinate internal SME teams to optimize commercial value of assigned assets and the broader generation fleet.
- Develop and implement strategies to preserve/enhance asset value, including monitoring market developments and regulatory impacts.
- Manage day-to-day relationships with counterparties, joint venture partners, and internal stakeholders (Operations, Legal, Regulatory, Finance, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with commercial agreements and act as the primary contact for related issues.
- Negotiate commercial contracts (e.g., PPAs, long-term service agreements) with third parties.
- Provide commercial support on operating and capital investment decisions.
- Identify, assess, and act on trends, threats, and opportunities in the external environment.
- Lead resolution of disputes with partners and counterparties.
- Report on commercial issues and opportunities in stakeholder meetings.
- Manage commercial reporting and functions with asset partners.
- Support evaluation of new assets/opportunities from Business Development.
- Lead or contribute to ad-hoc projects and initiatives across assets.
What you will bring to the role:
- Degree in Engineering, Commerce, Economics, or related field.
- Master’s degree or progress toward one is an asset.
- Professional designation is an asset.- 5+ years in operational, commercial, engineering, business development, or financial/analytical roles, preferably in deregulated electricity or related industries.
- Knowledge of power markets, generation, marketing, regulatory frameworks, transmission, and PPAs.
- Familiarity with PJM interconnect and customer base preferred.
- Experience with tax-equity structures for renewables is an asset.
- Strong understanding of power markets and plant operations.
- Experience with complex legal agreements and contract negotiation.
- Financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and asset earnings modeling.
- Project management and cross-functional collaboration.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to travel within North America.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of independent decision-making.
- Able to manage ambiguity, conflict, and dynamic workloads.
- Provide strategic recommendations to senior management.
- Hybrid Office/Work from home position.
- Periodic travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices across North America.
This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
The pay range for this position is $126,990 to $148,155.
The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and prior relevant experience.
This position is eligible for health care benefits, retirement benefits, paid time off, and annual bonus.
