JOB SUMMARY:
•This position is intended as an experienced engineering position expecting a minimum of 15+ years Oil & Gas industry experience.
•Primary role is to provide the electrical engineering support for the sale and execution of Solar Turbines products in Oil & Gas projects.
•Provides design, analysis and engineering for projects and proposals to assure that design and equipment meets Solar’s and the customer’s specifications along with industry codes and standards.
•Handles the creation and modification of Solar engineering specifications, Work Instructions, Guidance Notes, and Task Guides.
•Responsible for insuring integration of electrical equipment into Solar design and drawings with Solar Design Team.
•Create and review electrical equipment specifications and data sheets for the requisition of quotes and procurement (Local Equipment Room (LER), MCC, Switchgear, Control Rooms, battery systems, transformers, HVAC, etc).
•Will serve as Lead Engineer on projects to direct In-House design and Offshore resources.
•Has interdisciplinary (Mech, Instrument, and Structural) basic knowledge
•Will provide mentorship to junior engineers.
•Will conduct training sessions to EE team members and other disciplines as required.
•Travels to fabrication sites, installation sites, and customer facilities as needed to support project requirements
•Position requires flexibility with personal schedule to meet deadlines and support occasional business travel.
PROBLEM COMPLEXITY:
•Assignments cover a variety of electrical design problems related to facilities engineering. Must be able to perform detailed analysis and calculations required and document results. Projects range from 1 to 24 months in length, occasionally longer.
WORK DIRECTION AND LATITUDE:
•Works under the direction of Project Engineer on assigned proposal or project.
•Reports organizationally to Manager of Project Execution Engineering (Construction Services).
•Performs design engineering, and specifies equipment related to discipline, on assigned proposals and projects under general supervision.
•Follows established processes and procedures without exception.
•Work is generally reviewed for soundness of technical judgment and overall adequacy and accuracy.
•Can initiate and recommend design changes.
•Can initiate and recommend departmental process changes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Work entails active contribution to the development of project drawings such as One Lines, LER Layout, grounding plans, lighting plans, Fire & Gas, Area Class Plans, etc..
•Active participation in the preparation and monitoring of project schedule
•Designs and specifies electrical equipment as found commonly in the Oil & Gas gas compression and generation facilities.
•Creates and issues requisitions for quotation and purchase of all electrical equipment on a project
•Participates in project design reviews and HAZOP reviews
•Interfaces with suppliers during the definition of equipment scope and throughout project execution
•Assists in design of system operating logic. (No logic programming is required for this position.)
•Provides field support during fabrication, commissioning, and start-up of designed systems
•Recommends design changes affecting areas of direct responsibility
LIAISON:
•Frequent contact with engineers, designers, supervisors, quality, purchasing, and fabrication to obtain information and give technical advice and direction, after proper review, related to assigned projects and proposals.
•Occasional contact with suppliers and customers regarding technical and documentation expediting issues.
BUSINESS CONTRIBUTION:
•Completes assigned tasks in a timely and professional manner, thus contributing to organizational effectiveness
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
•Meets customer and company expectations for a quality product
•Provides technical expertise on assigned projects
•Identifies cost reduction opportunities for Solar’s activities
•Assist in the development of departmental standards, processes, tools and equipment.
•Resolve complex electrical problems as they arise.
•Project deliverables (Solar documents and equipment supplier documentation ) delivered on time
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS:
•Spanish language read/write capability is a plus.
•Familiarity with Canadian and Mexican NOMs is a plus.
•Masters degree in Electrical Engineering is a plus.
•Knowledge of Instrumentation and Controls integration and sizing is a plus (SDV, PSV, PIT, TIT, FIT, etc.)
What You Need To Have (Minimum Requirements):
Educational Background:
•Minimum of Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Technical Excellence:
•Applicant’s background should include familiarity with NEC, IEC, ATEX, API, NFPA and other codes and standards as applied to Electrical balance of plant equipment including common international codes.
•Ability to work in the United States and able to travel internationally. Prefer he/she has a current US passport.
•Demonstrated proficiency in problem solving and troubleshooting.
•Effective knowledge and use of MSOffice (O365) applications.
Effective Communication:
•Effective communication skills, both written and oral, in the English language.
Managing Multiple Priorities:
•Sense of urgency and good organizational skills are required to work with multiple projects and competing priorities.

Technical Excellence:
•6-Sigma background is a plus.
•Experience in Gas Compression plants is a plus
•Medium Voltage design is a plus
•Electrical P.E. License is a plus
•ETAP software user is a plus

Summary Pay Range:
$125,925.00 - $188,887.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
