SUMMARY
The Sr. HV Substation Engineer – Principal / Team Manager – Level 5 will provide engineering sup-
port to the E&C team and is responsible for leading all stages of project substation design across
multiple projects. This position reports to the Director of SME, or another management personnel
that the President of the Company may designate. This position reports to the Irvine, CA office but
will maintain a hybrid schedule of working out of their home office and the Irvine, CA office. Working
hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm local time.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee the completion of IFC designs across substation disciplines: physical, protection &
control, studies, relay settings, SCADA, civil, and structural.
Maintains the ability to stamp IFC substation designs with an applicable Professional Engi-
neering License.
Develop and review design deliverables (single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, layouts,
bills of material, etc.) for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with industry standards.
Perform engineering studies and calculations (short-circuit analysis, load flow, relay set-
tings, grounding, harmonics, etc.) to ensure reliable, efficient substation operations.
Coordinate with substation designers and drafters to translate engineering requirements
into construction-ready drawings.
Review vendor drawings and specs, ensuring proper equipment selection (transformers,
breakers, relays, etc.).
Stay current with evolving standards, implementing best practices for safety, reliability, and
cost-effectiveness.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
•

A degree in electrical engineering, or applicable engineering discipline.
Minimum of 10 years of professional engineering experience in the power industry (specific
to HV substation design)

Minimum of 5 years of management experience leading a team and/or serving as a subject
matter expert, influencing strategy, and guiding engineering practices.
Assertive, able to cope with pressure, a team player
Excellent written and verbal communication and organization skills
