As a senior engineer of operational technology and research group in the Technical Services (TS) department, reporting to the Chief Engineer, Operational Technology (OT) and Research, you will work in the Saskatoon office to support our uranium mining, milling and refining, and fuel services operations with technical expertise, solutions, standards development, and cross-site collaboration.
In this role, you will:
•Work with multi-functional teams and external consultants in the development and deployment of industrial control system standards, practices, and procedures/work instructions for OT systems throughout Cameco by using a centralized and standardized approach at the corporate office.
•Lead corporate initiatives, collaborating with other TS groups, Business Technology Services (BTS) and Operations, to standardize and drive step-change improvements in controls systems including OT/IT architecture & governance, HMI standards, programming practices (PLC and DCS code), alarm management (alarm rationalization and alarm philosophy), asset management, and network for PLC and DeltaV systems for all of Cameco, enabling improved reliability, safety, and process optimization opportunities.
•Identify, evaluate, and implement new operational technology projects within the group, such as operational data strategies - AVEVA/OSIsoft PI systems for all of Cameco’s operating sites, mine/mill automation.
•Support digital technology initiatives in both development and delivery stages.
•Deliver technical leadership and provide hands-on support for OT systems across operational sites.
•Collaborate with sites and other corporate departments on shared responsibilities at Cameco, and ensure processes and procedures comply with regulations.
•Provide coaching and mentorship to other staff.
Required:
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics and Computer Engineering, or a related engineering field
•Seven to 12 years of experience with various types of instrumentation and control hardware and OT systems in an asset-intensive regulated industrial setting
•Be eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS): Professional Engineer (P. Eng)
•Proficient skills in automation platforms such as DeltaV, Foxboro, and Rockwell
•Proficient skills in PLC, SCADA, HMI, DCS, and industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Ethnet/IP, and OPC
•Working experience with AVEVA PI system, time-series process data analytics, process simulation, process control design, modelling and implementation of advanced process control strategies, control loop performance management
•Working knowledge of OT/IT network infrastructure including VLANs, firewalls, switching, and relevant standards/certification for cybersecurity of the ICS systems
•Proven track record for delivering automation/digital application or industrial control projects
•Strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to present ideas clearly and effectively in both written and verbal formats
•Occasional travel to our operations including northern Saskatchewan and Ontario
Recommended:
•Experience working in mining operation including milling and underground environments
•Experience integrating advanced process control solutions into Foxboro, Delta-V DCS and/or other SCADA systems
•Knowledge of mineral or chemical processing is a plus
•Previous research and development experience is a plus
•Software development tools (Python, C/C++, etc.)
•CAP (Certified Automation Professional – ISA), CSE (Control Systems Engineer – NCEES)
•Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
