Zachry Exploration is currently looking for a talented Sr Manager/Director of Accounting to join our Accounting department in San Antonio, TX. This is a great opportunity to get into a leading role within a small group in one of Zachry’s growing entities.
Responsibilities
• Hands-on oversight of all daily accounting functions, and support and supervision of 2 degreed accountants.
• Prepare quarterly financial statements and supporting schedules for senior management.
• Prepare annual financial statements and footnotes for external audit.
• Maintain knowledge of, and ensure compliance with, GAAP, COPAS, and JOA’s.
• Prepare monthly/quarterly entries to record various accruals, write-offs, and tax provisions.
• Perform monthly analytics on revenue volumes & prices, line-item expenses, reserves, etc.
• Scrutinize G/L account balances to ensure proper classification, use of estimates, and timely entries.
• Maintain quarterly/year-end schedules such as DD&A, ARO & Impairment,
• Monitor Accounts Receivable and make collection efforts and bad debt allowance as needed.
• Provide LOE and other well information for annual property tax rendition and ensure timely payment for discounts.
• Coordinate and spearhead annual audit. Prepare various PBC schedules, analytics, and G/L reports during the audit. Make assessments regarding audit recommendations, adjusting entries, and footnotes.
• Coordinate and manage various state & parish Sales & Use Tax audits.
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of OGAS accounting software. Act as system administrator of various OGAS accounting system master files and security profiles. Make programming recommendations to OGAS personnel.
• Forecast and manage weekly cash activity to anticipate cash needs/surplus and the resulting impact on the revolving credit facility.
• Interact with and provide information to corporate tax personnel in preparation of annual tax return.
• Enforce company policy and internal controls surrounding spending, protection of assets, debt compliance, etc.
• Various reports and projects as needed: Census filings, API surveys, due diligence, review of buy-sell agreements, settlement statements, and accounting transition of properties sold/purchased.
• Develop, train, motivate, and evaluate employees.
• Continually seek ways to improve efficiencies, particularly through Excel and other electronic media.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. CPA a plus.
• Minimum 8 years’ accounting experience with an oil & gas exploration and production company
• OGAS software experience a plus
• 5+ years of experience is a lead or managing role
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be organized, self-directed, able to prioritize and multi-task, work in a team environment and take direction from others.
In-depth knowledge of:
• COPAS accounting procedures and GAAP
• General ledger maintenance
• Daily supervision of Revenue, JIB, and A/P accountants
• Federal and state taxation of oil & gas operations
• Consolidated financial statement preparation
• Budgeting and cash flow forecasting
• Well and financial information as requested by senior management
• Computer system and accounting controls
• Insurance requirements of oil & gas operating agreements
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, video chat and software systems. Position may include visits to construction sites and industrial facilities requiring mobility (on ground and at heights) and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hardhat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and work boots.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position will be required to be in the company office. Employee will be based out of the local Zachry office, but may be required to work in multiple environments.
