South Bow is looking for a talented and experienced Specialist, External Relations, with a strong background in public affairs. A background in any of state or federal government relations, community relations or community investment and/or communications is required. The ideal candidate will possess the expertise, strategic vision, and relationship-building skills necessary to develop and execute effective and holistic external relations strategies. They will be adept at fostering connections with external audiences, including government officials and third-party organizations.
This role presents an exciting opportunity for a strategic thinker and relationship builder to contribute to South Bow’s success through impactful engagement with external stakeholders and rightsholders.
- Serve as South Bow’s representative to key state and federal legislators, cultivating and maintaining relationships with officials and their staff in our operational areas
- Provide strategic guidance and external relations insights to South Bow’s business development team, identifying opportunities and external risks that may impact project development
- Lead South Bow’s participation in U.S.-based industry associations, ensuring strong engagement and representation
- Provide perspective and input into South Bow’s communications, media and social media strategies
- Offer on-the-ground support to South Bow’s operations team in the event of an operational incident
- Collaborate with South Bow’s Indigenous and community relations teams to identify meaningful opportunities for community engagement and investment within the United States
- At least 6 years of experience in government relations or a related field
- A university degree in political science, economics, business, or a related discipline
- Experience working in government, politics, public policy, or within a relevant industry association
- Experience in the oil and gas sector, including upstream, downstream, or midstream operations
- Familiarity with the Incident Command System
- Background in communications, media relations, community relations, or Indigenous relations
This position requires candidates to :
- Have a current, valid authorization to travel internationally (including but not limited to Canada and the U.S.)
- Travel to locations across the company’s footprint to meet with government officials or meetings with the team in Calgary, AB (estimated to take up to 20% of work schedule)
- Successfully complete pre-employment credit and criminal background checks
