About the role
The Site Supervisor is responsible for scheduling maintenance activities, overseeing contractors’ work & correctives, plant high voltage switching & troubleshooting.
The Site Supervisor shall know all aspects of safety in the above-mentioned activities. In this position you shall have knowledge and experience switching and Lock Out Tag Out for substation components as well as collection systems. This position will also assist or perform troubleshooting and return to service evolutions on renewable energy project substations and collection systems.
Responsibilities: You work in the field, hands on, leading by example, Lock Out Tag Out, electrical safety and best work practices. The Site Supervisor will assist in reviewing Arc Flash studies, read one-line diagrams, schematics, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals and other technical documents to develop switching and maintenance procedures for High Voltage Maintenance, Testing, and operations in substations, collection and distribution systems. You will assist in training others in proper switching, safety, maintenance, and testing of all high voltage systems
As the Site Supervisor, you will:
•Work with OEM/ISP contractors to ensure maintenance schedules are kept.
•Perform quality checks to ensure contractors are performing quality work.
•Assist other contractors when needed to coordinate wind turbine large correctives.
•Help customers with annual budgeting.
•Work with owners and contractors developing a plan to ensure site performance with recommended improvements.
•Utilize CMMS to track work, inspections, schedules and manage BOP site inventory.
•Work safely in and around energized substations, transmission lines, and collection systems performing thorough inspections of substations, collection and transmission systems. You will respond to off-hour trouble issues and events for substations, collection and transmission system operations.
•De-energize equipment and safely discharge stored energy to troubleshoot equipment problems and issues to the component level in order to remove and replace faulty electrical components. ( i.e. Motors, Auxiliary relays, coils, etc.)
•Utilize test equipment such as HV thumpers with TDR to Locate and repair underground cable faults within collection systems. Perform collections system repairs to underground systems and utilize test equipment such as Megohm meters and VLF to prove repairs.
•Interface and communicate effectively with customers.
•Perform standard OEM and NETA preventative and predictive maintenance and testing on substation and collection system equipment utilizing all various types, kinds and models of test equipment. (i.e. Power Factor, SFRA, TTR, DLRO, CB Analyzer, Vacuum Bottle tester, SF6 analyzer, Megohm meter)
•Perform and document inspections - scheduled substation and distribution system.
•Assist in Authoring, verifying and performing switching orders
•Identify and maintain necessary safety equipment (ie. Grounds, sticks, meters, etc.)
•Work with customers to schedule and coordinate equipment outages
•Maintain a strong safety mindset and support the EHS culture
•Develop and further expand technical knowledge and expertise of currently recognized industry standards for HV system maintenance.
•Train and mentor developing technicians in electrical safety and proper maintenance of equipment
•Ensure safe use of additional equipment such as man lifts, bucket trucks, forklifts and aerial platforms
•Perform IR(Thermography) scanning and develop reports as to findings and any recommended repairs
•Perform transformer oil samples
•Oversee high voltage and engineering contractors when necessary
•Follow all NERC, NFPA70E, company & customer policies and other applicable regulations
•Perform and document substation battery maintenance and testing.
•Document all service activity and parts consumptions using digital reporting systems.
•Oversee customers contractors and report performance to ensure quality work
•Able to participate and respond in an On-Call 24/7/365 rotation schedule
And all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Ability to travel within a regional area
•2+ years of hands-on experience in Energy Generations, Leadership, High, Medium, and Low voltage maintenance and testing of electrical power equipment.
•Vestas Wind Turbine platform experience preferred.
•Experience operating, maintaining, and testing, circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, air switches, URD cable and components, and similar equipment.
•Capable of trouble shooting distribution and transmission controls circuits
•Lead investigations of electrical related issues, including root cause analysis as needed.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Ability to operate test equipment needed for the project.
•Ability to lead projects, assign tasks, prioritize activities and interface with customers.
•Ability to read and fully understand protection and control schematic diagrams and wiring diagrams and catch mistakes and problems with the drawings and design when comparing with accepted engineering and customer standards.
•Ability to determine and interpret customer’s requirements and provide final deliverables including as built prints and all test results meeting specified requirements
•Ability to understand manufactures’ literature to facilitate testing.
•Experience in substation and collection systems switching
•Hands on experience with pertinent substation and collection system equipment
•Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
•Good communication and problem-solving skills
•Knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), NERC, NFPA70E, varying electric codes, NETA requirements, IEEE standards and IEC standards
Additional Requirements:
•Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
•Complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
•Able to work overtime and travel as needed for work or training.
•Able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, able to lift 50 lbs.
•Must have a valid driver's license and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.
•Experience installing, maintaining, and testing circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, or similar equipment is desired.
•This role requires regular work at heights, confined spaces, physical stamina, and the ability to work a rotational on call schedule. Applicants must adhere to site safety practices and perform in variable outdoor environments.
