VG is looking to hire a Site Safety Manager for an ongoing need at a new 100MW BESS with a substation and gen-tie line in Astoria, Queens. The candidate will manage all aspects of site safety and to support the on-site CM, as well as provide guidance regarding Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) and other safety and health requirements and monitor work sites to ensure compliance. This is a Full-Time position with an expected schedule of 5 8s per week. Option of W-2 / 1099 is available.
Responsibilities include:
•Manage all aspects of site safety and to support the on-site CM
•Monitor and help ensure compliance of all personnel and OSHA requirements and to each contractor’s own project-specific health and safety plan.
•Document and provide training on applicable safety and occupational health topics, such as weekly toolbox talks and annual refreshers on topics including lockout/tagout, confined spaces, lead awareness and other topic to employees as required and/or directed.
•Submit daily logs electronically to the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) which shall include a summary of observations and work performed by the SOH Officer with applicable attachments such as pictures or reference materials.
•Determine if any work is not conforming to safety and occupational health requirements
•Conduct investigations and prepare detailed reports for any accidents, which shall supplement the reports required of or by other responsible parties, within twenty-four (24) hours of the accident. These reports shall be submitted to the COR.
•Coordinate their daily activities with appropriate personnel. This may include collaborating with other managers, contractors and/or consultants as directed. Make recommendations as necessary regarding existing procedures and practices to assist with developing and implementing the safety program.
Qualification & Skills:
•Minimum 5+ years of safety management experience
•Experience with high-voltage substation safety requirements
•Experience with environmental hazards, UG obstructions/utilities and testing live cabling
•Conduct risk assessments, accident investigations and root cause analysis.
•Develop Safe Work Plans (SWPs) in conformance with the guidelines.·
•Perform safety and quality audits on regular basis. Audit electrical work specifically in compliance of NFPA 70E (2018), OSHA 1926 Subpart V - Electric Power Transmission and Distribution and OSHA 1910.269 - Electric power generation, transmission, and distribution.
•Review all contract documents to be conversant with project safety and quality requirements.
•Ensure the safety of project site and all individuals including engineers, contractors, sub-contractors and staff members.
•Conduct meetings, briefings and discussions and provide inputs on safety related matters.
•Organize and maintain all Safety & Quality documents and records.
•Provide staff training on safety as and when required.
•Highly Preferred - CSP, CUSP or other related safety certification.
•Associates / Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field.
•Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, analytical and multi-tasking skills required.
•Well-versed with industry standards, regulations, and work practices.
