Shift Business Manager position available in Grand Rapids, MI
- Responsible for the overall profitability, safety, and quality on their shift.
- Responsible for coaching and training production teams.
- Responsible for coaching team members.
- Responsible for production in heavy production environment that operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
- Must maintain a positive work environment and productive working relationships.
- Supervision includes assigning and directing the work of direct reports.
- Works with teams to establish and maintain goals for safety, production, and quality.
- Monitors work in process, yields, run-time, and productivity.
- Takes responsibility for ensuring that safety policies and practices are followed.
- Participates with internal recruitment process and evaluation process of shift employees.
- Initiates disciplinary actions as needed.
- Actively participates in ways to improve communication, both verbal and written.
- Assists in the identification and investigation of product defects (both internal and external).
- May create, develop, and implement in-house training courses to instruct employees.
- Understands the strategic planning process and knows divisional plans. Actively participates in the process of taking divisional goals and developing a way to measure them at the team or work center levels.
- Assists with internal auditing and customer/supplier related issues such as claims, complaints, and product development.
- Investigates all concerns and complaints from employees (may work with GBM, DO/GM or HR Manager on some investigations).
- Develops and utilizes accurate spreadsheets and data base systems.
- As needed, assists shift members with meeting production numbers.
- Generates monthly reports to Production Manager.
- Maintains an active role in various work center or project teams.
- Assists with safety investigations as needed.
- Monitors plant cleanliness by conducting weekly housekeeping tours.
- B.S. Degree in Business, Management or other degrees highly desirable, Equivalent experience in management or primary metals processing will be considered.
- Experience in value added cutting and processing is a plus.
- Participation in Webco’s Management Readiness course preferred.
- Basic understanding of welding and metal joining, product design and manufacturing in order to improve our short piece processing with carbon steel would be preferred.
- Working knowledge of TS 16469 requirements.
- Skillful trouble shooter and problem solver with an analytical mind and strong technical and mechanical aptitude. Must have effective communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, SAP).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organization and planning skills with the ability to think ahead and the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
- Highly motivated, self-driven individual with a strong desire to succeed and eager to enhance knowledge and skills through on-going education and development.
- Must be able to motivate others to work both independently and in a project team environment.
- Must be able to work within Webco’s established Management Boundaries and to maintain utmost confidentiality as required.
- Must follow all Webco policies and procedures and ensure employees follow them as well.
- The SBM divides his/her time between an indoor office environment at the Grand Rapids location and in the manufacturing area of this facility.
- The office environment is typically temperature controlled and clean, with normal air contaminants, such as dust, typically found in an office environment.
- The manufacturing environment has regular exposure to loud and prolonged noise and some work may be performed around moving equipment and machines.
- Regular exposure to hot temperatures of 95 f to 110 F in the summer due to the combination of the actual outside temperature and heat from the processes inside the facility. Employees are also exposed to cold temperature, which is dependent on the actual outside temperature.
- While in the manufacturing area, employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include noise/hearing protection, safety glasses with side shields and steel toed work shoes.
- Must be able to work a minimum of 12 hours per day on a regular basis. May require additional hours of work, as required.
- Requires full range of body motion to include: lifting, bending, twisting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, stooping, and squatting.
- Position requires frequent walking and/or standing on concrete floor while wearing steel-toed shoes. May walk up to two (2) miles per shift while performing essential duties.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- May require unassisted lifting of a variety of objects from various positions, which range in weight from 5 to 50 pounds with an average weight of 15-20 pounds.
- Utilizes a variety of hand positions such as turning and twisting.
- The job is fast paced and the ability to deal with stress is essential.
The SBM may be required to work days or nights. Typical schedule five days per week. Weekend hours may be required for some shifts. Hours of work may vary depending on business needs.
