JOB SUMMARY: Senior Utility Arborist
Scope of Work -
This position is responsible for managing the distribution line clearance program. Manage internal/external customer requests. Facilitate the planning, scheduling, and implementing of pruning and removal activities (while working with the contractors and municipalities) to meet company and industry standard specifications in compliance with NERC FAC-003. Additionally, this position requires participation on project teams for maintenance programs or capital improvements, where necessary, for reliability and/or infrastructure improvements. Assists operations with tree work necessary to secure proper tree to conductor clearances.
Major Roles And Responsibilities
•Ensure compliance with all company safety rules and applicable laws and regulations for worker and public safety.
•Monitor progress of contractor activities and adherence to specifications and take appropriate action to meet objectives.
•Conduct field audits and document results of program including consent and ability to achieve the clearance specifications.
•Coordinate work assignments to meet CMP/Vegetation Management goals and internal and external customer expectations.
•Provide guidance and consultation to other business areas on vegetation management resource requirements.
•Conduct meetings with customers and public officials to educate and resolve customer inquiries.
•Provide support to company operations during storm and emergency events.
•Take action to remove vegetation conditions that may impact security, safety, or reliability.
•Responsible for Vegetation Management initiatives and assists in planning long-term program goals, and continually improve upon process and work practices.
•Assist in the development of the annual vegetation management plans.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience Required:
•Requires a Bachelor Degree in applied science, forestry, arboriculture, environmental science from an accredited college/university and 3 years related experience; OR an Associate's Degree and 5 years related experience. Exceptions may apply for candidates with a proven career in Utility Vegetation Management programs.
•Required knowledge of arboriculture, taxonomy, and pesticide use, plant community ecology, herbicides, tree pathology, horticulture, right-of-way procedures and regulations, engineering technology, electric operations, IVM, and construction practices.
•Maine Arborist license and Maine commercial pesticide license for right-of-way required or obtained within 1 year of hire.
•Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
•Familiarity with Electric Transmission and Distribution Systems or Utility Vegetation Management is preferred.
•Requires experience in supporting business operations, with direct experience in the related subject matter preferred.
Skills/Abilities
•Must be available 24/7 as required.
•Demonstrated ability to support business systems and resolve end-user issues.
•Must be organized, collaborative, and have initiative.
•Quantitative, qualitative, and training skills with the ability to use tools such as spreadsheets or other technology-based applications, written, verbal and meeting facilitation skills.
