Senior Transmission & Distribution Line Engineer (P.Eng.)

Summary

CEC is currently looking for a Senior Transmission & Distribution Line (T&D) Engineer (P.Eng.) to join the team. This position will be primarily focused on providing T&D engineering services to our clients in the Renewable Energy, Utility, and Mining sectors. The ideal candidate will be a professional engineer (P.Eng.), have significant experience in direct T&D design, be highly proficient in use of the PLS suite of programs and be an excellent communicator. They should have an excellent understanding of engineering principles, and a willingness to learn and to adapt their design practices through diverse and challenging projects. They should be flexible to work with a wide array of clients, standards and project sizes. They should also be striving to increase their knowledge in technical and business systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide T&D engineering and design services.

- Manage and deliver T&D projects of varying size and complexity.

- Mentor engineers and designers, including training, development, and supervision.

- Undertake detailed reviews of engineering packages including design drawings, documents, and PLS models.

- Develop project documentation such as charter, scope, execution plan, schedule, budget, etc.

- Proactively contribute to business development, proposal development, and networking initiatives.

- Interface with clients, contractors, and vendors as required for various tasks.

- Some travel to project sites will be required (approximately 10% of the year).

Qualifications:

- Possess a civil, mechanical, electrical, or other relevant engineering degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.

- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for registration with EGBC.

- Registration in other provinces and the US (P.E.) is considered an asset.

Required Skills and Experience:

- More than 10-15 years of direct T&D overhead line design experience.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, a high level of initiative, a strong work ethic, and the ability to be coached.

- Excellent understanding and application of overhead line design principles, in particular structural and mechanical engineering principles related to these installations.

- Has a strong understanding of the electrical principles associated with high voltage T&D lines and power systems

- Produces high-quality technical documents such as design basis documents, reports, and specifications

- Excellent understanding of CSA Standards C22.3 No.1 and C22.3 60826

- Understands how to distill complex engineering concepts and to tailor their explanations to the relevant audience.

- Highly proficient in their ability to use PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE. Knowledge of and ability to use PLS-TOWER would be an asset.
