The Senior Mine Engineer (Planning & Ventilation) is responsible for developing annual reserve estimates, the life-of-mine plan for budgeting and operational planning, and production forecasts as needed. This role also supports mid-range planning efforts and oversees the engineering technician responsible for underground ventilation monitoring and compliance. This position will ideally be Juneau based with a Monday-Thursday on-site schedule. Open to a two-week on/off rotation for the right candidate.
- Develop and maintain the annual life-of-mine plan and reserve estimates for budgeting and operational decision-making using Deswik mine scheduling software
- Support mid-range planning efforts, including mine design, sequencing, and scheduling.
- Work with short-range planning engineers to ensure day-to-day operations align with the LOM strategy.
- Continually optimize mine sequencing to maximize ore recovery and minimize costs.
- Assess and integrate various mining methods and technologies to improve efficiency.
- Supervise the engineering technician responsible for ventilation monitoring, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.
- Analyze, verify, and optimize underground mine ventilation systems to maintain safe and efficient airflow.
- Develop and maintain ventilation SOPs and protocols to align with site requirements.
- Utilize VentSim and other modeling software to support short- and long-term ventilation planning.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary projects involving infrastructure planning, backfill designs, and mine sequencing.
- Ability to work safely and promote a strong safety culture.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in a mining environment.- Holder of, or ability to attain, Qualified Person status with SME or similar organization.
- Strong understanding of mine design and scheduling, geotechnical principles, ventilation, and backfill strategies for an underground longhole stoping operation.
- Proficient with mine planning software such as Deswik.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and data integrity.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with geology and operations teams.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a team-oriented mindset – being respectful, reliable, and easy to work with is just as important as technical skills.
