Wood is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Oil, Gas and New Energies business focusing on delivering some of the biggest and most complex projects in the Canadian oilsands. This opportunity is hybrid.
Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in our office based in Sarnia, Ontario. Reporting to the Manager of Mechanical Department, the role supports Wood’s future and ongoing projects. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for developing and updating mechanical specifications, technical documentation, and equipment data sheets, as well as managing RFQs and evaluating supplier bids. This role will provide technical assessments and support decision-making throughout the mechanical engineering process.

- Generating new Mechanical specifications, expand / update current specifications, preparing deviation on specifications.
- In-depth knowledge in either one or more of the following areas:
- Rotating Equipment (pumps, air-compressors, steam/gas turbines, etc.);
- Stationary Equipment (pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, etc.);
- HVAC Systems/Equipment;
- Materials Handling (cranes, davits, etc.).
- Generating technical decision records and project decision records as related to Mechanical engineering.
- Create, specify, and maintain data sheets for Mechanical Equipment such that the items can be purchased.
- Compilation of RFQs c/w specifications, scopes, and data sheets.
- Review quotations from suppliers and perform a technical bid evaluation of the equipment offered.
- Make a technical assessments and recommendations when required.
- Post purchase order placement package management, including review and approval of supplier documentation for the equipment.
- An awareness and understanding of non-destructive testing examination methods/requirements.
- Display an awareness of corrosion characteristics and welding processes.
- Visit the supplier’s shop or the client’s site.
- Develop Construction Work Packages specific to mechanical scope.
- Assist with the preparation of technical work practices to ensure consistent working methods
- Liaise with the engineering disciplines: Piping, Process, I&C, Electrical, CSA, Procurement and Material Control.

- Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in PEO
- 10 to 15 years of relevant EPC experience working on Oil and Gas projects.
- Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Canadian experience in conceptual, front-end, and detailed engineering on various mid to large capital projects in oil & gas, Oilsands including Refinery, Upgrader, SAGD, and Petro-Chemicals
- In-depth knowledge of industry codes: ASME, API and Canadian Codes
- Knowledge and proven application in all aspects of Materials, Welding and NDE will be considered an asset
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively when managing multiple tasks.
- Strong technical writing skills; experienced in the preparation of correspondence and technical reports.
- Effective verbal communicator, including presentation, facilitation and listening skills.
- Ability to work both independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Willing to travel and accept field assignments.
- Motivated by working with people, through internal collaboration or with external clients.
- Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, Excel)
Must be legally able to work in Canada at the time of application
- Hands-on field/site experience in operations, mechanical equipment maintenance, inspections and workshop repairs and turnarounds will be considered an asset
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, or similar, software would be considered an asset.
