This opening is for a senior or intermediate Mechanical Engineer role within the REVD Field Engineering and Inspection (FEI) Group, reporting to the REVD FEI Group Head. This position involves frequent interaction and collaboration with members of the REVD FEI Group, REVD Consulting Group, and Mechanical & Structural (M&S) Teams.
The Rotating Equipment, Vibration, Dynamics FEI is in search of a highly motivated individual with a strong mechanical engineering background, eager to develop subject matter expertise in both fixed equipment and rotating machinery engineering. The primary responsibility of this role will be the execution and technical mentorship of piping vibration assessments and risk-analysis of in-service refinery equipment. Identifying, understanding, troubleshooting, and performing severity analysis of flow, machinery, acoustic, and pulsation-induced vibration and dynamics problems in piping, structures, and fixed equipment.
Field work will be performed at multiple North American refineries providing oversight, technical mentorship of the work produced by junior engineers and inspectors. The successful candidate must follow outlined work procedures for performing field surveys and severity assessments, and technical program audits, and maintain a good working relationship with the client and Equity employees including subject matter experts (SMEs) of various disciplines.
Experience with vibration testing, modal analysis, and piping design is desired.
The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about travel and gaining hands-on experience in equipment and plant operations. They are self-motivated, capable of working independently and/or under the guidance of senior engineers. This role requires strong foundational knowledge in stress analysis, strength-of-materials, machinery, process systems, and vibration analysis. A proactive approach to problem-solving and adaptability to new challenges are essential qualities.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
Experience Level:
3-15 years
Travel Requirements:
Up to 80% travel is required with various alternative work schedule options available, i.e., 15-days on, 6 days off.
Job Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
•Ensure results from visual surveys and calculations performed on vibration data collected by junior engineers are accurate and high quality. In addition to quality control and assurance oversight, responsibilities will include developing and reviewing remediation options for problematic piping systems where vibration is exceeding acceptance limits.
•Work with refinery operations and engineering teams to identify vibration and transient system dynamics problems with piping, equipment, and machinery. Field-survey these items and assist with the development of work-scope for field inspection teams.
•Resolve technical questions brought up by the field teams and develop solutions to problems relying on strong engineering fundamentals and calculations, ASME and API codes and standards, industry best-practices, and by leveraging technical SMEs.
•Interface with REVD Project Manager on status updates.
•Provide support for FEI business development opportunities in respective region.
•Apply knowledge of engineering principles to solve problems in stress analysis, strength-of-materials, and vibration analysis.
•Perform in-field vibration testing and analysis of equipment. This includes use of vibration sensors, data collection systems and signal processing.
•Identify and promote improvements to vibration survey hardware, software, or processes to improve efficiency.
•Work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams to address issues related to rotating equipment, piping, pressure vessels, and fired heaters.
•Has an interest in developing industry-leading expertise in the areas of:
+ Fundamental engineering calculations of stress and strain and fatigue analysis
+ Piping vibration analysis (natural frequency assessments, dynamic analysis).
+ Piping stress analysis (B31 compliance assessments, dynamic assessments).
+ ASME Section VIII, Division 1 and 2, and B31 series design calculations.
+ Troubleshooting and optimizing pump and compressor performance.
+ Rotating equipment diagnostics (transient vibration data collection and analysis, fault detection).
+ Develop best practices and standards under senior engineers’ guidance.
+ Developing presentations, work scopes, and proposals for future client work.
