We are hiring one (1) full time permanent Senior Manager, Underground Distribution Operations to join our team in Edmonton, Alberta.
The Senior Manager, Underground Distribution Operations is accountable for the leadership of the underground operational teams that competently execute work safely and efficiently within the Distribution regulatory framework.
What You’d Be Responsible For
•Fostering a strong reporting and learning culture to support an injury frequency within the top quartile of urban utilities in Canada by demonstrating accountability for safety, proactively managing safety performance through leading indicators, and building capability through sound procedures and training for employees and contractors.
•Creating a high-performance workplace culture where employees have the appropriate training, tools, equipment and resources to do their jobs safely and efficiently.
•Creating an environment where engagement is in the top quartile compared to industry benchmarks where employees feel valued and have the opportunity to do their best at work every day.
•Supporting EDTI Leadership in the planning, construction, maintenance and operation of the electrical system in a safe, reliable manner at competitive rates relative to the Alberta electrical industry.
•Fostering a culture of continuous improvement through humble leadership, listening to and respecting every individual, assuring quality at the source, focusing on process, and supporting data driven decisions.
•Enhancing the customer experience by maintaining strong reliability and delivering consistent levels of service to all customers, while consistently meeting customer expectations and supporting the evolution of the grid.

Key Areas of Accountability
Planning:
•Participate in the development of a strategy and plan for the function.
•Develop an operational plan that translates the function strategy into executable objectives (1-2 years).
•Define clear priorities and actions for the upcoming annual work plan.
•Anticipate longer-term issues, challenges, and opportunities.
•Ensure integration and alignment with other business plans.
•Identify the necessary budget and human resource requirements to deliver services, processes or operations.
•Monitor execution of the business plan.
•Assess competition and market opportunities and threats; recommend appropriate plans to improve the operational effectiveness of the function and implement decided actions.
Operational Excellence:
•Monitor advancements in technologies and industry practices that can benefit EPCOR.
•Identify, implement, and monitor opportunities for continuous improvement or broader transformation of the team’s function.
•Assess organizational readiness to engage in change efforts and develop and execute change management plans to promote engagement and mitigate risks.
Execution:
•Provide clear direction required to execute the business plan.
•Ensure the alignment of activities, address issues/problems/concerns, and respond to shifts in priorities.
•Monitor metrics to assess performance; track, report, and implement corrective measures as needed to resolve issues.
•Ensure practices, processes, and systems are utilized in such a way that work is completed safely and efficiently.

What’s Required to Be Successful
•Strong technical background in a related field possessing a certification as an Electrical Journeyman Tradesperson, Engineering Technologist (with preference for a P.L.Eng.) or Professional Engineer is required.
•Strong understanding of business administration and finance including post-secondary coursework would be considered an asset; however, a working knowledge of budgeting, variance analysis, project estimating and customer billing would be a minimum requirement.
•Accomplished Leader with over 10 years of progressively responsible Management experience in Construction, Operations or a related area. Preference will be given to candidates with management experience in a union-based environment.
•Demonstrated ability to develop effective resource plans and schedules.
•Understanding of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety regulations, CAN/ULC standards, Worker’s Compensation Board requirements, Environmental policies related to sensitive areas and vegetation management, and the Alberta Electrical Utility Code.
•An understanding of low and medium voltage (up to 25 kV) distribution system design and operation would be considered an asset with a working knowledge of crew and equipment requirements.
•Ability to oversee multiple functions and areas and to analyzes issues, solve problems, and make effective decisions.
•Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage audiences at all levels.
•Strong visionary leadership style with the ability to effectively gain buy-in and lead changes while empowering and engaging others.
•Strong computer skills – with proficiency in all micro-soft applications, GIS-based tools (GeoFIT), resource scheduling tools and work management systems (IVARA).
•Strategic planning skills with an ability to take an enterprise view on challenges and opportunities.
•Able to effectively prepare presentations, lead, facilitate and manage meetings.
