Job summary
Provides leadership for Platte River’s enterprise infrastructure, guiding the design and management of cloud and on-premises platforms, networking, and network security. Collaborates with executive stakeholders to shape long-term strategies that enable innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence. Ensures compliance with NERC CIP and other regulatory standards while embedding security and resilience into every solution. Builds strong partnerships with IT/OT teams to align infrastructure capabilities with operational priorities, supporting reliability, compliance, and future-ready technology integration.
This position reports to the Director of Infrastructure and Cybersecurity and advances Platte River’s mission to deliver safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible energy, supporting a sustainable future for the region. The ideal candidate has both leadership and technical expertise in networking and firewalls systems and enjoys working in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment.

Work environment
This position works a typical Monday through Friday schedule in a general office environment and may be eligible for hybrid workdays. The successful candidate should reside within a commutable distance within Northern Colorado.
Performing this work requires occasional physical effort to lift and carry light objects and is primarily sedentary; minimal walking or standing is required on an as-needed basis.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Models the mission, vision, values, and culture of the organization
- Defines and maintain a multi-year infrastructure roadmap that aligns with organizational goals and emerging technologies
- Leads modernization efforts including cloud adoption, virtualization, and containerization to ensure secure, scalable, and cost-effective infrastructure
- Accountable for leading infrastructure incident management processes, including coordination of cross-functional response teams, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews to ensure timely resolution, minimize impact, and drive continuous improvement in infrastructure resilience including corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Shared responsibility for disaster recovery planning and testing, collaborating with business units and IT leadership to design, maintain, and regularly validate recovery strategies that ensure operational continuity and compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
- Oversees enterprise backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies to ensure data integrity and operational resilience
- Partners with the Cyber and Information Security team to embed security controls into infrastructure design and operations, supporting zero-trust principles
- Establishes KPIs and SLAs for infrastructure services; monitor and report on performance to ensure high availability and resilience
- Provides regular updates to leadership on infrastructure health, risks, and strategic initiatives
- Promotes adoption of agile and DevOps practices within infrastructure teams to enhance delivery speed, collaboration, and system reliability
- Collaborates with stakeholders across IT, OT, and the Technology Division to align infrastructure strategies with business objectives
- Works with peers to interpret and apply NERC CIP standards in system design to ensure compliance. Develops and enforces related policies and procedures, and oversees implementation, monitoring, audits, and evidence gathering
- Manages relationships with vendors, consultants, staff augmentation and service providers to meet project, department and organizational needs
- Occasionally works during the evenings, weekends, after hours and on-call for both scheduled and unscheduled events
- Prepares annual budgets and procurement requirements
- Monitors and manages capacity planning activities for infrastructure technologies and provides regular reporting
- Performs other duties as assigned

- Expertise in project planning and management, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Deep understanding of enterprise networking concepts, protocols, and architecture (e.g., switching, routing, access control)
- Proficiency in compute technologies, including virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- In-depth knowledge of storage area networks and disaster recovery/business continuity strategies.
- Strong understanding of enterprise firewalls and advanced security features (e.g., threat prevention, deep packet inspection)
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Azure platforms, including Active Directory, Exchange Online, Teams, and SharePoint
- Knowledge of modern operational methodologies such as Kanban, DevOps, and SecDevOps for agile infrastructure delivery
Required criteria
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems, management information systems, computer science, engineering or related field; or, equivalent combination of education and experience
- Technical experience: 7 years in information technology systems and network administration in an enterprise computing environment
- Management experience: 3 years supervising IT professionals in an enterprise computing environment
- Valid driver’s license
- Work experience:
- In electric public power or regulated energy environment
- Hands-on implementation of security controls and frameworks (e.g., CIS controls, NIST CSF) in infrastructure environments
- Leading modernization initiatives such as cloud migration, zero-trust architecture, or data center consolidation
- Designing and implementing enterprise backup and recovery solutions across hybrid environments
- Proven track record in developing and testing DR/BCP strategies for enterprise systems
- Advanced knowledge of routing, switching, firewalls and SD-WAN technologies
- Education: Master’s degree in a related discipline
- Certifications: ITIL, CISSP, or other GIAC
Pay
This position is an exempt role; salaries are paid bi-weekly and are annualized below for reference. Factors that may be used to determine actual salary include specific skills, years of experience, education, and certifications.
