POSITION SUMMARY

Under limited supervision the Senior Financial Reporting Accountant is responsible for supporting the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, reports and disclosures in accordance with GAAP. This role ensures compliance by gathering necessary supporting information and reviewing and approving key deliverables from the accounting team. This position reports directly to the Manager – Financial Reporting in the Denver office.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

- Maintain respectful and productive working relationships within and across all work groups, ensuring effective collaboration and cooperation.

- Actively engage in and support the monthly close process by creating journal entries, preparing accounting reconciliations and rolling forward monthly and quarterly files.

- Review account reconciliations and notify team members if items are incomplete or need to be redone.

- Contribute to the financial reporting process by performing financial statement tie-outs, rolling forward workpapers and gathering support and inputs needed by the team.

- Critically evaluate the various inputs for financial reporting to ensure completeness and accuracy. Research, correct and report to manager any discrepancies.

- Partner with team to ensure timely calculation of the quarterly evaluation of ASC 842 – lease accounting and resulting journal entries.

- Partner with team to produce monthly LOS reports and any ad hoc LOS reporting as requested by the team.

- Partner with team to ensure timely calculation of the company’s ARO process ensuring accurate outcomes and thoroughly documented process memos.

- Support interim and annual audits by gathering control support, obtaining certification signatures, updating process narratives and obtaining required documents for our external auditors (PBC requests).

- Create and maintain process documentation and narratives.

- Maintain accounting related systems and processes, including but not limited to the company’s chart of accounts and BA maintenance.


OTHER DUTIES

- Complete or ensure the completion of the Census reporting support.

- Proactively mitigate risk for the company by documenting business processes (desk manual format).

- Provide coverage and support for accounting responsibilities during team absences or when additional assistance is needed to meet deadlines Perform other duties and projects, as assigned, to support the success of the department and company.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

- Knowledge of oil and gas industry accounting.

- Strong Excel skills.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to research, propose and apply new and existing transactions to complex accounting issues.

- High attention to detail to complete accurate work.

- Financial and business acumen and technical financial reporting skills.

- Strong critical thinking skills to exercise sound judgement in evaluation and selecting alternative solutions to complex problems.

- Advanced understanding of GAAP and how to apply it to new and existing transactions.

- Extensive knowledge of difficult accounting concepts and procedures to apply in daily activities in an increasingly complex and dynamic environment.

- Proactive; excellent prioritization, organization and multi-task skills to beat or meet required deadlines.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

- Degree in Accounting, Tax or Finance or relevant equivalent experience

- 6+ years’ experience in accounting - 3+ years’ experience in Oil & Gas accounting

- Previous accounting experience in Oil and Gas Exploration & Production

- Experience in auditing

- Experience with Quorum or similar accounting system
