Senior Environmental Qualification (EQ) Engineer

The Senior Environmental Qualification Engineer is responsible for ensuring that safety-related equipment in nuclear facilities can perform under specific operating environmental conditions. This role involves leading EQ program development, performing technical evaluations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards such as IEEE, NRC, and ASME. The engineer supports licensing, design, and operational activities to maintain plant safety and reliability.

- Serve as the technical lead for Environmental Qualification (EQ) of safety-related equipment in nuclear facilities.

- Interface with License/Owner EQ representative to successfully transition project EQ program data and documentation prior to 103.g finding.

- Develop and maintain EQ program documentation in accordance with NRC regulations (e.g., 10 CFR 50.49), IEEE standards, and plant licensing bases.

- Evaluate equipment for qualification under harsh conditions including radiation, temperature, pressure, humidity, and seismic events.

- Review vendor EQ documentation and test reports for compliance with applicable standards (e.g., IEEE 323, IEEE 344).

- Support procurement engineering by specifying EQ requirements for new or replacement equipment.

- Interface with regulatory bodies, vendors, and internal stakeholders to resolve EQ-related issues.

- Lead audits, inspections, and assessments of EQ programs and processes.

- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and project teams.

Experience

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field.

- Minimum 8–10 years of experience in Environmental Qualification within the nuclear industry.

- Strong knowledge of NRC regulations, IEEE standards (especially IEEE 323 and IEEE 344), and ASME/ANSI codes.

- Experience with EQ testing, aging analysis, and qualification methodologies.

- Familiarity with equipment qualification databases and configuration management systems.

- Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.

- PE license or advanced certification in nuclear or mechanical engineering is a plus.

- Experience with digital I&C equipment qualification preferred.

- Familiarity with international EQ standards (e.g., IEC) preferred.

- Prior experience supporting EQ programs at operating nuclear plants or new builds is preferred

Estimated Starting Salary Range

The estimated starting salary range for this role is $179,000 - $203,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a semi-monthly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
