SSES consults for several clients across Canada, providing technical expertise in energy efficiency and building performance. In this role, you will primarily be responsible for conducting ASHRAE Level energy audits, with additional responsibilities in energy modeling (as needed), building condition assessments, and, where opportunities exist, managing energy projects from planning through implementation. Your work will support clients in identifying energy efficiency opportunities, assessing potential retrofits, and leveraging available government incentives to offset capital costs. You will play a key role in helping communities across Canada reduce their GHG emissions while ensuring data-driven, cost-effective decision-making.
This position reports directly to the President of SSES and is being positioned to eventually lead and manage the energy team, contributing to the firm's growth and expanding its impact in the energy consulting sector.
- Conduct ASHRAE Level I, II, and III energy audits for a variety of building types, identifying energy efficiency opportunities and recommending cost-effective retrofits
- Develop energy models (as required) to support audits and validate energy-saving measures. Analyze energy consumption patterns, including the impacts of weather and operational behaviors on energy use
- Manage energy efficiency projects, including conducting feasibility studies, developing business cases, procuring vendors, and overseeing project implementation
- Develop tools for internal use to optimize and automate processes, improving efficiency in energy audits, reporting, and project management
- Perform technical analysis on energy efficiency projects, such as VFD upgrades, motor replacements, HVAC system retrofits, chiller and boiler upgrades, and lighting improvements
- Develop and deliver reports and presentations outlining audit findings, energy savings potential, GHG reductions, and water conservation impacts
- Assist in compliance reporting and benchmarking for mandatory energy disclosure programs
- Researching new technologies and creating tools for clients to be used to assess project feasibility
- Communicating with the team and with clients as required
- Write about sustainability. Putting together resourceful content about sustainability and energy that can be used by the commercial building and Co-operative homes industries to educate and promote green project implementation
· Completion of an Engineering bachelor’s degree program or equivalent required.
· Energy Modelling Experience (IES, eQuest, RETScreen, etc.)
· Experience conducting ASHRAE Level II, III Energy Audits
· P.Eng, CEM or CMVP designation an asset
· Previous experience working at an energy consulting firm is a must
· Experience with Microsoft Excel (VBA and Macros specifically)
