Job Summary:
NAES is seeking a Senior Electrical Commissioning Specialist to lead and execute electrical startup and recommissioning activities on a legacy coal-fired power plant unit. This project requires a highly experienced commissioning professional capable of navigating incomplete prints, providing field leadership, and ensuring systems meet operational readiness. The role includes discovery work, troubleshooting, and direct coordination with both project management and electrical crews to bring systems safely and effectively back online.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the commissioning, testing, and recommissioning of electrical systems including switchgear, motor control centers, protective relays, cabling, motors, and balance-of-plant equipment.
- Perform discovery work to identify undocumented or poorly documented electrical systems and components.
- Review, interpret, and resolve gaps in legacy schematics and P&IDs from 1970s-era coal-fired generating units.
- Provide day-to-day leadership and technical direction for field electrical crews.
- Interface with project management, engineering, and construction teams to align on scope, progress, and issues.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, plant policies, and industry standards throughout commissioning.
- Document and maintain detailed records of all commissioning, troubleshooting, and corrective actions performed.
- Strong understanding of electrical testing, startup, and commissioning processes.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical documentation and technical drawings.
- Expertise in identifying and resolving faults within electrical systems.
- Proven ability to direct and coordinate craft labor during commissioning activities.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems including protective relays, switchgear, cabling, motors, and balance-of-plant equipment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with ability to work effectively across management, engineering, and field teams.
- Ability to walk, reach, climb, stoop, and lift (up to 75 pounds).
- Engineering Degree, Technology Certification, or equivalent experience.
- OSHA-10 required; OSHA-30 preferred.
