Job Summary:
The Senior Electric Motor Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, rebuilding, and testing of industrial electric motors, generators, and related electromechanical equipment. This senior-level role requires extensive knowledge of AC/DC motors, troubleshooting techniques, rewinding, and the ability to lead and mentor junior technicians. The ideal candidate ensures all work meets quality and safety standards while supporting efficient shop operations.
Key Responsibilities:
•Disassemble, inspect, and diagnose electric motors, generators, and related components for wear, damage, or electrical faults.
•Repair or replace faulty mechanical and electrical components, including bearings, windings, shafts, brushes, and commutators.
•Perform motor rewinding, including stripping, coil making, inserting, connecting, and insulating windings as required.
•Use specialized testing equipment (e.g., megohmmeters, surge testers, multimeters) to test electrical performance and insulation resistance.
•Operate lathes, milling machines, and balancing equipment for machining and alignment tasks.
•Ensure all repairs meet manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
•Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts used, and test results.
•Mentor and train junior technicians and assist with troubleshooting complex issues.
•Adhere to and promote safety procedures, company policies, and industry regulations.
•Support quality assurance efforts by participating in inspections and root cause analysis.
•Coordinate with other departments to ensure a timely and efficient workflow.
Qualifications:
•10+ years of hands-on experience in industrial electric motor repair and maintenance.
•Skilled in motor rewinding, machining, balancing, and vibration analysis.
•Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical schematics.
•Ability to operate shop tools and precision measuring instruments.
•Excellent troubleshooting, leadership, and communication skills.
•OSHA and electrical safety training certifications (preferred).
