UTI has a diverse client base, ranging from natural gas gathering, to transmission, to residential distribution, and everywhere in between. UTI’s engineering group focuses on pipeline and pipeline facility design, drafting, mapping, modeling, and project management.
POSITION SUMMARY:
UTI is currently seeking qualified candidates for a SENIOR CIVIL ENGINEER position. The primary focus of this position is to engineer, design, and manage natural gas utility projects for UTI’s clients. Aside from typical utility design, the position will also be expected to support other projects within the civil engineering discipline such as land development, surveying, geotechnical, structural, etc.
The position will work hand-in-hand with civil and mechanical engineers, designers, surveyors, GIS professionals, and environmental consultants to execute most projects. This position, as well as the engineers and designers, will have direct oversight from the Engineering Manager.
Infrequent day travel may be required as part of this position. Typically employees travel within Ohio and surrounding states to perform field work, make site visits, or attend client meetings. Overnight stays are uncommon and typically do not exceed one or two nights per year.
The position will report to UTI’s primary office in Columbus, Ohio. Day travel to project sites and client offices should be expected. Overnight stays are uncommon but may required on a project-by-project basis.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
•Natural gas pipeline design, including:
•Horizontal and vertical routing of natural gas pipelines
•Design of horizontal directional drills
•Specification of materials and equipment
•Preparation of operation plans and procedures
•Construction management, including:
•Development of bid specifications and bid documents
•Managment or supporting bidding processes
•Project and construction support and/or management
•Construction site visits
•Material and equipment quoting and ordering
•Preparation of RFI responses
•As-builting and job book preparation
•Basic to intermediate civil engineering design, including:
•Stormwater, grading, drainage
•Prepare and adhere to project scopes, budgets, and schedules
•Develop Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) drawings
•Work with various multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, designers, and others to develop safe and effective designs
•Continuous development of knowledge and interpretation of applicable gas pipeline safety codes, regulations, and laws
•Opportunities to cross train and shadow others within company to share knowledge and skills
•Maintain and develop UTI standards, such as:
•Design aides (e.g. Excel worksheets)
•Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited program
•3+ years’ experience as a practicing civil or civil-adjacent engineer
•Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate
•Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or Microstation
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project, etc.)
•Outstanding attention to detail
•Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English language)
•Ability to handle multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines simultaneously without compromising quality of work
•Analyze situations, make decisions, take action, and inform supervisors of exceptions to the standard processes
•Excellent organizational skills and experience in managing and maintaining a project schedule and budget
•Availability to occasionally conduct field work in Ohio and surrounding states
•Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
•Discretion when dealing with confidential information
•Good record of safe work practices
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•5+ years’ experience as a practicing civil or civil-adjacent engineer
•Land development experience
•Professional Engineer (PE) License
