The Turlock Irrigation District (TID) is currently looking for qualified candidates to assume the role of a Civil Engineer and become a valuable member of the Civil Engineering Department. Candidates possessing excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, along with a civil engineering background and project management experience are strongly encouraged to apply. These efforts will contribute to the efficient, safe, and dependable delivery of irrigation service to the communities we serve.
This integral part of the team will be responsible for a variety of assignments, including:
- Lead and manage a wide range of civil engineering projects that range from building improvements, to river habitat restoration, to canal infrastructure improvements.
- Oversee all phases of project development—from initial concept and feasibility through design, permitting, construction, and closeout.
- Coordinate with internal departments, external consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure project alignment with District goals and compliance with applicable standards.
- Prepare engineering plans and documents that are integral for the reliability of irrigation infrastructure.
- Monitor project budgets, schedules, and performance metrics to ensure timely and cos-effective project delivery.
While the desired candidate will have prior experience with managing complex projects from initial planning through construction, all candidates with an interest, passion, and background in the civil engineering field are encouraged to apply. Candidates possessing a Professional Engineering license are preferred, but a license is not required to be considered for this position.
Job Summary
Under general direction from the Civil Engineering Department Manager, to plan, direct, and perform professional engineering work related to the design, construction, and maintenance of irrigation related facilities and miscellaneous project requests from other divisions/departments within the Turlock Irrigation District.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Senior Civil Engineer
is the advanced professional level class in the Engineer series. Positions assigned to this classification are distinguished from the Associate Civil Engineer classification by the performance of the more complex engineering assignments. In addition, positions assigned to this class have responsibility for all projects within their functional area as well as responsibility to provide technical and functional supervision to assigned personnel.
Associate Civil Engineer
is the professional level class in the Engineer series. Positions assigned to this classification are distinguished from the Assistant Engineer classification by having responsibility for major projects. In addition, this classification has responsibility for providing engineer’s stamp and signature on drawings in conformance with government code and regulations.
Assistant Engineer
is the entry-level class in the Engineer series. Assistant Engineers are assigned to work on projects under guidance of experienced engineers. Positions in this class will usually perform most of the duties required of the Associate Civil Engineer, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent direction and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. The class is distinguished from the Associate Civil Engineer by the performance of more routine duties according to established procedures.
