AirJoule is uniquely poised at the intersection of addressing climate change, supporting the energy transition, and helping water starved regions. If you are passionate about these missions, and are passionate about disrupting technologies that will change the world as we know it, then AirJoule is the place for you!
We are a joint venture between GE Vernova and AirJoule Technologies. Our revolutionary atmosphere water harvesting technology enables both dehumidification and transformative cooling, while also producing clean and decentralized water for industrial, commercial, and humanitarian purposes.
If you are a highly motivated and experienced individual who wants to make a real-world impact, please apply!
AirJoule is seeking a Senior Applications Engineer to join the application engineering team, which focuses on optimization of device performance, product design, and integration with customer sites. The role of the Senior Applications Engineer starts in the lab, where technical leadership is necessary to guide product development. After this, the engineer then transitions the technology into the real world. This role will be involved with controlling and optimizing the subsystems and components that make up AirJoule systems. The engineer must be knowledgeable with respect to mass balance, process properties, and thermal management and is expected to guide experimentation to validate this. This assignment will be located at AirJoule’s headquarters in Newark, DE. The Applications Engineer should be familiar with complex chemical or mechanical systems, process control and automation, and models of chemical and mechanical systems.
To perform in this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
- Drive forward applications of AirJoule system, especially working towards real world deployments
- Lead deployments of AirJoule systems at customer sites, including travel to customer sites, planning and coordination of deployment events, commissioning of said systems, and analysis of the resulting data.
- Lead efforts to design and implement supporting infrastructure for AirJoule prototypes, such as power sources, heat exchangers, communications systems, and transportation containers.
- Coordinate efforts between the Applications Engineering and Design Engineering teams in order to optimize AirJoule asorption systems. This will include optimization of geometry, sizing, flowpath, adsorption kinetics as it pertains to AirJoule adsorbent-coated heat exchangers.
- Work with the Applications Engineering Team to design testing campaigns with Design-of-Experiment methods, execute them with sufficient experimental rigor, compile and communicate results.
- Develop models/simulations for AirJoule systems, interactions with environments, and AirJoule adsorption subcomponents. Software such as ASPEN, Matlab, COMSOL, DWSIM, Solidworks, etc. may be utilized.
- Document experimental results in the form of PowerPoint presentations, technical report documents, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) entries.
- Train new employees in the responsibilities listed herein and similar work.
- Uphold a safe, respectful, collaborative, inclusive, and appreciative team environment.
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, or related field required.
- Minimum Experience: 5+ (post BS degree), 4+ (post MS degree), or 1+ (post PhD degree).- Experience with running multicomponent mechanical and/or chemical systems, such as ‘rigs’, reactors, automotives, technical prototypes, etc. including knowledge of safe operating methods.
- Experience with real world implementations of complex technical systems, such as field deployments, running plants, etc.
- Expertise with either sorption, filtration, ion exchange, catalysis (hetereogeneous), mass transport, thermodynamics, and HVAC systems is preferred.
- Strong expertise in design, layout, instrumentation, and sourcing of chemical and mechanical engineering systems, such as heat exchangers, reactor beds, condensers, and their core components (pumps, motors, blowers, fittings, couplings, etc.)
- Basic understanding in interpreting electrical requirements of components and sensors and their electrical compatibility onto existing systems
- Aptitude in data table structuring, joining, and summarization with a strong skillset in numerical methods for data analysis
- Experience with modeling of chemical and mechanical processes with software such as ASPEN, Ansys, Matlab, COMSOL, DWSIM, etc is nice to have.
- Passionate about hands-on work while acting as a driver with respect to project execution
- Strong interpersonal skills and desire to work as part of a team
