POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Analyst, Market & Business Intelligence, Grid & Energy Services (G&ES), will play a pivotal role in shaping Qcells’ strategy for Virtual Power Plant (VPP) and Distributed Energy Resource (DER) market growth. This individual will synthesize internal DER asset data and external market intelligence to identify emerging opportunities, inform go-to-market (GTM) strategy, and support executive decision-making.
This role contributes directly to accelerating the clean energy transition by uncovering value streams for distributed resources, enabling flexible load participation, and guiding investment in grid-interactive technologies. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical capabilities with strategic insight and a deep understanding of DER and grid services. This position is based in Irvine, San Francisco, or Santa Clara, CA.
RESPONSIBILITIES
•Aggregate and analyze Qcells’ internal DER asset data (residential, C&I, utility-scale) into performance dashboards to support monthly and regional business insights.
•Conduct market sizing and opportunity analysis across DERs (solar, storage, microgrids) and emerging flexible load segments (e.g., data centers, ESCO customers, electrified fleets).
•Analyze utility and wholesale market data (LMPs, RA pricing, DR programs, congestion) to identify regional VPP and grid service opportunities.
•Build dashboards and visual tools (Power BI, Tableau, ArcGIS) for internal planning and leadership reporting.
•Track policy and program developments to support market entry timing and GTM planning.
•Deliver competitive analysis and scenario-based insights to inform product and regional strategies.
•Collaborate with Business Development, Strategy, and Program Management teams to align insights with commercial goals.
•Provide concise, actionable recommendations based on data, regulatory trends, and market dynamics.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Energy Systems, Engineering, Data Science, or related field.
•5+ years of experience in market analysis, strategy, or business intelligence within energy or clean tech.
•Proficiency in Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools for data visualization.
•Experience working with geospatial or grid data (e.g., ArcGIS).
•Working knowledge of SQL, Python, or other data tools for analysis and automation.
•Understanding of DER and VPP models, as well as U.S. electricity markets and regulatory structures.
•Strong communication skills with the ability to translate insights into strategic actions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Experience at energy research, consulting, or market intelligence firms focused on DER/VPP markets, grid services, or energy transition strategy.
•Background in grid-edge technology providers (e.g., VPP, DERMS, DR platforms) or utilities working on DER and load flexibility programs.
•Familiarity with flexible load sectors such as data centers, ESCO portfolios, and large commercial energy users.
•Knowledge of wholesale markets, DR/incentive programs, and regulatory filings across major U.S. ISOs/RTOs.
•Experience with forecasting or market scenario modeling to support investment or GTM decisions.
