Scrap Yard Material Handler Operator C&D Scrap Metal Recyclers – Houston, TX Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

C&D Scrap Metal Recyclers is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Scrap Yard Material Handler Operator with experience operating scrap-specific equipment such as Sennebogen, Fuchs, or Liebherr material handlers. This role is essential in supporting daily scrap yard functions through the proficient operation of purpose-built machinery for metal handling. The ideal candidate will handle material loading and unloading, assist in metal processing, and uphold safety and operational standards. Additionally, operators serve as a positive and professional face of the company during customer interactions.

Key Responsibilities

•

Execute tasks under Yard Supervisor direction: Efficiently carry out daily operational priorities, ensuring workflow continuity and timely project completion.

•

Manage receipt and unloading of materials: Safely receive and unload scrap materials from customers, verifying quantity and condition to maintain inventory accuracy.

•

Operate scrap-specific heavy equipment: Skillfully operate Sennebogen, Fuchs, and Liebherr material handlers to load/unload and sort scrap metal from trucks and trailers, maintaining balanced loads and following all safety procedures.

•

Support metal processing operations: Assist with sorting, cleaning, and preparing metals for shipment or sale, collaborating closely with processing teams to meet production goals.

•

Maintain rigorous safety standards: Adhere to all safety policies, perform regular equipment inspections, wear required PPE, and promptly report any hazards or incidents.

•

Perform equipment maintenance: Conduct routine inspections and basic preventative maintenance on material handlers and related equipment, ensuring optimal machine performance and reporting any mechanical issues.

•

Deliver exceptional customer service: Represent the company professionally during customer interactions, fostering positive relationships and a welcoming environment.

•

Ensure workplace cleanliness and organization: Maintain clean, safe, and orderly work areas, including proper storage of tools and equipment.

Work Schedule & Location

•

Occasional travel to satellite locations may be required for operational support.

•

Full-time position

Qualifications

•

Minimum of 2 years’ experience operating Sennebogen, Fuchs, Liebherr, or similar hydraulic material handlers in a scrap yard or heavy industrial setting.

•

At least 2 years’ experience in a production or heavy industrial environment emphasizing safety and efficiency.

•

Excellent physical stamina and manual dexterity, including strong hand-eye coordination.

•

Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining safety and productivity standards.

•

Strong commitment to adhering to all safety regulations and company policies.

•

Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving equipment and procedures.

•

Ability to work outside in heat, rain, cold, etc.
