Compensation: $45,000 - $55,000 | Job Grade 16

Schedule: Rotating shifts | Must be available for nights, weekends, and holidays as needed - overtime opportunities

We're looking for a Scrap Inspector to be the first line of defense in maintaining the quality of materials used in our steel production. This role is essential in safeguarding our furnaces and equipment by identifying and removing non-conforming or hazardous materials from incoming scrap loads.

What You'll Do

Visually inspect incoming scrap loads for prohibited or hazardous materials

Operate radiation detection equipment and other scanning tools

Identify and reject non-conforming scrap according to internal guidelines

Document inspection results and communicate with scrap yard staff and vendors

Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations

Maintain a clean and organized inspection area

Assist with continuous improvement initiatives related to scrap quality

What We're Looking For

Experience: 1-3 years in a heavy industrial, scrap, or materials handling environment preferred

Ability to recognize various grades and types of scrap metal

Strong attention to detail with a safety-first mindset

Comfortable working outdoors and around large equipment

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and pass physical, drug screening, and background check

Education: High school diploma or GED required

Preferred: Experience with handheld analyzers or radiation detection devices

Good communication skills and a willingness to work as part of a team
