Overview:
We are looking for a Truck Scale/Vehicle Weighing Operator to join our scale office team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for serving customers, great communication and organizational skills, and proven ability to multi-task in this fast- paced scale operating position. Experience with truck scales, Microsoft Excel, and communication systems is required.
Truck Scale/Vehicle Weighing Operator position is our first point of contact with our customers and requires strong customer service skills. Truck Scale/Vehicle Weighing Operator will manage the scale, determine load details, direct the customers to the correct drop-off locations, communicate with scrap yard co-workers about incoming loads in our fast-paced scrap yard. Accurately explaining and handling payments to customers while keeping detailed inventory records is essential. The role also involves managing the receiving and shipping of materials, answering incoming customer calls, balancing daily cash/inventory, and providing timely closing reports to our accounting department.
Responsibilities:
•Customer Service: Provide excellent front-line customer service to all our customers, big or small. Must also have strong communication skills to interact effectively with various departments at our recycling center.
•Attention to Detail: Must have strong attention to detail. The truck scale operator must notice details of each customer's load to process transactions accurately.
•Customer Interaction: Determine the customer's drop-off location based on the type of load and direct them accordingly.
•Scale Management: Manage the truck scale to track weights for commercial and private vehicles, ensuring the incoming weights match the exiting weights for each customer load.
•Material Handling: Manage the receiving and shipping of materials.
•Administrative Tasks: Process paperwork and manage inventory in the computer system. Assist with other office and inventory tasks as needed to maintain accurate inventory.
•Cash Handling: Make change for cash transactions and count the cash out to customers. Balance cash transactions, run closing reports, and perform daily bookkeeping functions.
•Work Ethic: Must have a strong work ethic, be self-motivated, and show initiative.
•Reliability: The truck scale operator/scale clerk must be honest, dependable, and reliable.
•Independence: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
•Multi-tasking: Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties in a fast-paced customer service environment.
•Communication Skills: Must be able to speak, read, and write English fluently. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
•Availability: Must be available to work Saturday mornings on a rotating schedule.
•Organization: Must keep the work area clean and organized daily.
•Technical Skills: General computer skills and experience with Microsoft Excel and email are needed. Comfortable using computer equipment, walkie-talkies, intercom systems, and phones.
•Call Handling: Answer incoming calls, provide customer scrap pricing rates, or direct calls to appropriate departments.
•Flexibility: Backup other positions as needed.
•Experience: Experience with recyclable materials, scale operation, and cashier experience is preferred.
