The Safety Supervisor will provide direct Health and Safety support to the Montevallo & Brierfield locations.

Responsibilities & Expectations Responsible for compliance with MSHA regulations including employee training, delivery, and documentation.

Maintain records in accordance with company/location policy
Lead on all accident and incident investigations for facilities in area of responsibility.
Assist Health and Safety with reports to Workers’ Compensation and monitor Workers’ Compensation claims.
Assist Health and Safety in the completion and submittal of any company, local, state or federal agency reports.
Provide the necessary documentation to Regional Safety Manager and Plant Manager to demonstrate personnel training
Train employees on relevant procedures, practices, and regulations


Safety Program

Perform routine inspections of site and equipment
Coordinate safety recognition programs for consistency
Develop a system to periodically review and audit health and safety programs
Coordinate safety committee functions
Develop and assist in delivering routine safety meetings.
Perform / Assist in the development of Task Training checklist and work with managers to develop safe and compliant work procedures.
Oversee site Safety Management System.

Assist/Manage the analysis of compliance programs and develop best practices.

Provide front end input for safety and compliance on all capital projects, equipment or process changes.
Ensure compliance and maintenance of company/site safety procedures.
Implement and audit company safety standards.


Attributes Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledgeable of state and federal laws, regulations, and agencies (MSHA, DOT), the regulatory process, and the procedure for obtaining information is preferred.
Ability to influence change with key personnel at all levels of the organization.
Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision.
Strong interaction skills with regulatory inspectors including accompaniment on inspections and follow-up activities as required.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate on all levels.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
Strong sense of urgency in meeting customer needs and correcting safety issues.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meeting all required deadlines.
Consistently provide professional, friendly assistance to hourly employees, executives, customers, consultants, and fellow co-workers at all times.
Strong organizational skills required for thorough follow through of multiple projects involving an extensive network of departments and people.
Must be capable of working overtime, weekends or holidays, if needed.
Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint software.

Physical Demands Include, But Are Not Limited To

Must be physically able to perform work assigned.
Must be physically capable of accessing all plant locations.
Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise and dust.
Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
Will be working in an office environment, mining, and mineral processing environment.
The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles.
The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing, and sitting.
Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Travel up to 15% maybe required at times.


Required Education

High School Diploma or GED. BS in Safety, Environmental, Engineering, or natural sciences or equivalent work experience in the field is desired.


Preffered Education

Master’s degree in relevant / related field.


Required Experience

Must have at least 4-6 years of progressive safety leadership experience in at a site location in a heavy manufacturing and/or surface/underground mining environment. Environmental experience is a plus.


Preffered Experience

7-10 years of safety experience with MSHA regulated facilities. CSMP certification. Experience in working in a limestone/mineral mining environment. Environmental experience is a plus.
