About the Role:
The Safety / HR Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all health and safety programs and human resources policies to ensure regulatory compliance and support the company’s mission. This role plays a strategic part in cultivating a safe, productive, and legally compliant work environment while also managing employee relations, talent acquisition, performance management, and training initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety:
•Lead the design and enforcement of site safety protocols and training programs.
•Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and other relevant regulations.
•Conduct regular job site inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
•Lead investigations into accidents, near misses, and incidents. Recommend and implement corrective actions.
•Develop and maintain company-wide safety manuals, policies, and procedures.
•Manage the safety reporting and documentation system.
•Coordinate with project managers to ensure site-specific safety plans are implemented.
Human Resources:
•Oversee HR operations, including recruitment, onboarding, performance reviews, and offboarding.
•Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
•Provide guidance and support to management on employee relations, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
•Develop and update HR policies and employee handbooks.
•Manage workers' compensation, benefits administration, and FMLA/ADA cases.
•Implement employee development and retention programs.
Qualifications & Skills:
•Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Occupational Safety, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
•7+ years of progressive experience in HR and safety, with at least 3 years in a construction environment.
•OSHA 30 or OSHA 500 certification required.
•PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP/SCP, CSP, or CHST certification preferred.
•Strong knowledge of employment law, OSHA standards, and construction industry safety practices.
•Proven ability to lead and influence across multiple departments and job levels.
•Exceptional organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment:
•Mix of office and field environments.
•Must be able to travel to job sites across [region or area].
•Occasionally exposed to construction site hazards (PPE required).
