The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.

SAFETY COORDINATOR
The Safety Coordinator assists with the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the Health and Safety program at Côté Gold. The Health and Safety Leader works collaboratively with all departments to minimize risk and ensure the health and safety of employees, contractors, visitors and community members in terms of health care, emergency response, hygiene, health and safety training and government compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Area 1:
Development, implementation and continuous improvement of the Health and Safety program.
•Assist with the development and review of health and safety rules, policies and procedures in accordance with site, company and government regulation and legislation.
•Develop and support the implementation of Health and Safety Management tools and programs (Job Hazard Analysis, Job Task Observation, Non-Routine Hazardous Task assessments, Incident investigations etc.)
•Build understanding of the Health and Safety Management system through surveillance audits and directly engaging with employees, contractors and visitors.
•Facilitate and participate in incident/accident investigations and risk assessments.
•Develop and promote the adoption of new safety training programs and practices.
•Maintain and report health and safety data.
•Participate in safety interactions with employees including safety inspections and audits.
•Conduct daily field inspections to ensure that our team members are healthy and safe and that health and safety requirements and governmental legislation is being followed.
•Collaborate with other departments to ensure that all policies and procedures take health and safety into account.
•May assist with the Emergency Response Team preparedness and other activities as assigned.
Area 2:
Operational excellence.

•Be proactive and solution driven and implement operational improvements.
•Be obsessive in safety as a principle and deeply held belief, not just a regulation, standard or certification requiring compliance.
•Commit to continuous learning and improvement.
•Continually seek to improve your skills as a Health and Safety Coordinator.
•Watch for inefficiencies or problems.
•Ensure problems and inefficiencies are shared with others.
•Work collaboratively to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
•Consider risk along the five dimensions (throughput, time, quality, sustainability and cost).
Area 3:
Work collaboratively with others to deliver operational reliability.
Coaches and provides direction to the various stakeholders to ensure that the business objectives are met.
•Coordinate with other team members on site to meet shift deliverables.
•Mentor and train new team members.
•Participate in and lend your expertise to the team.
•Communicate clearly and effectively using the tools provided.
•Ensure incident investigations, risk assessments and any other health and safety data are accurate and complete.
•Ensure any deficiencies are communicated to the appropriate team members for follow up.
•Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver on our commitment to our team, our communities, the environment, and our shareholders.
Area 4:
Ensure contractor compliance with safety regulations and company standards through oversight, training, inspections, and fostering a proactive safety culture to prevent incidents and promote a safe work environment.
•Ensure all contractors comply with mine safety policies, regulations, and standards.
•Conduct regular site inspections and audits to verify contractor adherence to safety protocols.
•Ensure safety orientations and training meet site-specific requirements before they begin work.
•Ensure risk assessments and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) with contractors are completed to identify potential hazards and implement controls to mitigate risks.
•Oversee the reporting and investigation of any incidents or near misses involving contractors.
•Ensure briefings, toolbox (MBA) talks, and refresher training for contractors meets site expectations.
•Review contractors’ emergency response plans and ensure they align with site requirements.
•Track contractor safety performance, observation reports, inspection findings and provide monthly reports on performance and present to Management
•Promote a strong safety culture among contractors, encouraging proactive safety behaviors, such as IRS and participation in safety programs.
•Coordinate with contractors to ensure proper permits and work authorizations are obtained and followed. Review approved permits i.e. Confined space, hot work …
•Collaborate with contractors to identify and implement best practices in safety.
•Review contractor safety programs periodically to drive continuous improvement and reduce incident rates.
•Promote a positive H&S culture.
Safety & Sustainability Expectations
Maintain a cooperative interest in the health and safety of yourself, your fellow workers and local communities. Always wear PPEs when required. Be alert and observe, correct and report unsafe conditions. Follow operating procedures and comply with all regulatory requirements. Ensure that work areas are in compliance with all of IAMGOLD’s Health and Safety policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Acts of Ontario. Intervene as necessary, to ensure the safety of others in the workplace. Ensure all operations and site procedures related to HSS are available and followed.

Supporting all departments as service and solution finder to issues and concerns.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements And Nice To Haves
Minimum Qualifications, Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents
•Post-secondary certificate or diploma in health and safety, hygiene or mining related field is preferred.
•Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation is considered an asset.
•Train the Trainer and First Aid Certifications are considered an asset, but not required.
•Any acceptable combination of education and experience that would allow the individual to meet the needs of the role.
Work experience - nature & length
•Experience in mining and/or at a gold processing plant.
•Experience with Ontario Mining Health and Safety standards is considered an asset.
Additional qualifications - competency requirements
•Excellent English, written and oral communications.
•High level of computer literacy in MS Windows and MS Office applications: Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
•Ability to work within Health & Safety Software systems.
•Autonomous mining experience is considered an asset.
