As the
Principal Right of Way Agent, you are the
technical authority and problem-solver of last resort. You handle the
most complex acquisitions, unblock stalled negotiations, and provide
structured mentorshipto the team.
Your work
keeps critical infrastructure and utility projects moving— bridging the gap between landowners, legal processes, and project execution.
- Morning:
Review GIS maps, project schedules, and identify any
stalled acquisitions
requiring senior attention.
- Late morning:
Meet with a landowner in a rural corridor. After walking the tract, you
negotiate final easement terms
, resolving a month-long deadlock.
- Afternoon:
Collaborate with internal legal or project leadership on a
settlement agreement
or
condemnation case
, then mentor a Senior Agent on handling an upcoming complex negotiation.
- End of day:
Update acquisition logs, finalize cost estimates for upcoming parcels, and confirm next week’s site visits.
Your days are a
strategic mix of leadership, expert negotiation, and field impact.
- Lead
complex land acquisitions
for fee property, easements, and land-use rights.
- Serve as
technical expert
on eminent domain and ROW procedures.
- Resolve stalled negotiations
and lead acquisition strategy for high-risk parcels.
- Prepare
budgets, schedules, and project cost estimates
.
- Mentor and review
the work of Senior and ROW Agents.
- Support
condemnation proceedings and settlement agreements
.
- Handle
property damage claims
related to construction.- 5+ years of right-of-way experience
with public or quasi-public projects.
- Bachelor’s degree
in real estate, business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Active California Real Estate Salesperson license
(Broker’s license preferred).
- IRWA SR/WA designation required

- Notary Public required

- Expert-level understanding of California eminent domain and ROW transactions

- Strong leadership and negotiation skills
with ability to manage complex field assignments.
- Be the
