ArcelorMittal Global R&D East Chicago Center is seeking a skilled and motivated Research Engineer/Scientist possessing a strong fundamental background in material science with a focus on electromagnetic materials and with experience in developing and characterizing steels for electrical motor applications. This position, based in East Chicago, Indiana, will support electrical steel development projects for ArcelorMittal Global R&D and ArcelorMittal North America.
The ideal candidate should possess a strong academic background in Physical Metallurgy and a deep understanding of the type of steels used for electrical motor and transformer applications. The candidate will be responsible for high-level product support for ArcelorMittal’s Electrical Steel lines and detailed material characterization including microstructure and magnetic properties. Close collaboration on the development of new electrical steels with ArcelorMittal’s sister research laboratories is required. Good knowledge and application of advanced data analysis techniques including AI is necessary. The candidate must be able to work independently as well in teams and to manage technician and equipment resources in the laboratory. Travel both domestically and internationally will be required up to 10% of the time.
