Mesa seeks a relay settings engineer with at least 4 years of progressively responsible experience performing transmission level power system protection coordination studies and settings. The ideal candidate will be responsible for:
•Development of relay protection schemes using microprocessor-based relays to protect transmission assets.
•Coordination of protection devices for transmission lines, buses, transformers, capacitor banks, circuit breakers, and reactors at local and remote stations.
•Development of relay logic to support desired schemes.
•Understanding utility compliance requirements including PRC-027, FAC-008, etc.
•Remotely assisting on-site relay personnel during construction activities.
The ideal candidate will also:
•Work with the Engineering Manager and Principal Engineer to define project objectives, prepare design estimates, and define project requirements, and design approaches for large or complex projects.
•Act as Lead Engineer on coordination studies which require interfacing with the client, other engineering firms, and other departments within Mesa.
•Proactively identify and collect coordination study input data for upcoming projects.
•Conceptualize the initial design approach for one major phase of a large project or have overall responsibility for the engineering work on a routine project.
•Adapt and modify standard schemes as needed per project demands.
•Prepare and verify calculations using application specific software as required.
•Manage personal task assignments to ensure adherence to scope, schedule and budget.
•Ensure deliverables comply with Business Unit procedures and meet applicable design requirements.
•Adhere to client/industry standard practices and procedures.
•Work with clients to meet compliance requirements.
•Mentor less experienced associates
•Use good verbal and written communication skills with team members and clients
•Use good interpersonal skills to build relationships with team members and clients
•Accept responsibility for technical adequacy of deliverables designed or checked
Supervision of less experienced engineers or technical support personnel is exercised on an assignment basis and is not an on-going substantial component at this level.
4-year ABET degree required. Ability to obtain a Professional Engineer license is highly preferred.
