A
n employee who inspects, tests, adjusts, calibrates, repairs and installs distribution level system protection and control equipment. Performs the work required for the installation, maintenance, repair and adjustment of automatic controls and equipment protection devices concerned with the operation of distribution level power transformers, and distribution level protective systems. With supervision, the Relay Technician is responsible for certification of all related wiring, operational checks and evaluating in-service test data. Perform tests on electromechanical and microprocessor based relays, capturing test data electronically and uploading results to central database. Must become proficient with automated and computer aided testing processes, and engage in ongoing learning of new systems and methods through on-the-job training. Must have at least two (2) years of experience as a Journeyman Substation Electrician or equivalent, have training in mathematics, and be knowledgeable in electrical and electronic theory, including but not limited to microprocessors relaying, phasor circuits and diagrams. Must be qualified to perform switching or become qualified within 90 days of job award. This position is a training position for Relay Electrician II position. The Relay Electrician I shall be expected to progress to the Relay Electrician II position by demonstrating on-the-job, that he or she has acquired the necessary skills to qualify and then pass a proficiency exam within two years. Performs other related work for which the employee is capable and qualified to safety perform as assigned.
