The Quality Assurance Engineer will plan, implement and coordinate activities concerned with the development, application and maintenance of quality standards for production processes, systems, materials, products, and parts. Will lead and participate in the development and maintenance of quality initiatives, projects or certifications essential to the successful operations of Grass America.
- Education: Bachelor of Science preferred but not required.
- Years of experience: > 10 years preferred, 5 years with a BS.
- Certification: Not required, but a plus.
- Thorough knowledge and skilled experience of general Quality tools and the applications.
- Must be familiar with Gage Calibration Systems and the design of gages. (Attribute Gages)
- Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software programs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Technical knowledge of materials, complex tooling, and related processing equipment i.e. Stamping, Assembly, Plastic Molding, Plating and Heat treating.
- Strong knowledge and experience in Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015)
- Ability to work with suppliers by reviewing PPAP’s and devising sampling plans and procedures. Develop forms and instructions for recording, evaluating and reporting quality and reliability data.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and product specification documents, product operations manual, and written directions.
- Thorough knowledge in performing SPC, DOE and leading teams in Root Cause Analysis, FMEA’s and Continuous Improvement Projects.
- Prior experience with high volume stamping, plating, heat treating, plastic injection molding and automated assembly operations is highly desired.
- There are no direct reports for this position, however the employee must be able to lead quality team when the Quality Manager is not available.
- 2D CAD experience is a plus
- Lead activities for rapid response for any customer complaints related to technical product issues.
- Analyzes key Quality indicators to help production focus on areas for improvement and stop processes or activities not producing quality products.
- Serve as a communication channel between the customer and Grass engineering and support the development or new business and maintenance of current businesses.
- Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation. Generates statistical reports on quality related activities, new products or process testing results. Recommends action as required.
- Establishes programs to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment, testing, and measurement of analytical equipment.
- Develop and implement methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material.
- Physical demands of the position may include stooping, kneeling, balancing, crouching, handling, reaching, feeling, hearing, color vision, depth perception, field of vision, and talking.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Complies and writes training material and conducts training sessions on quality activities.
- Responsible for performing internal audits of the Quality Management System and providing follow up and closure of all findings.
- Conduct process capability studies and utilize the results to reduce variation.
