Wood is recruiting for Protection and Controls Engineer (Intermediate) to join its Power Solutions business focusing on Transmission & Distribution projects. This opportunity is Hybrid, based in our Vancouver, BC office.
You will provide engineering and design withing a team of engineers and designers to develop protection, control, and metering system designs for electrical substations ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV from conceptual stage through construction and commissioning. Under the guidance and direction of the P&C manager and senior leadership the role includes project leadership, engineering design, engineering design reviews, and factory inspections, as well as supporting construction and commissioning activities.

- Competitive salary with regular salary reviews to ensure we are rewarding at the right level in line with the market. Salary range for this position is CAD $90,000 - $125,000 per year. Final salary will be based on relevant and applicable experience, education, and the specific skill set and qualifications required for the role

- Work with a team of engineers and designers to develop protection, control, and metering system design for electrical substations ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV from conceptual stage through construction and commissioning.
- On assigned projects, serve as Project Lead and:
- Create one-lines, schematics, panel layouts and wiring diagrams for power system protective relaying and metering systems.
- Review or prepare engineering drawings/documents, specifications, construction and outage staging plans, and inspection and testing plans/procedures.
- Support construction and commissioning activities.
- Perform factory inspections.
- Participate in client technical, Safety by Design and constructability review meetings
- Liaise with clients at the project level on technical matters.
- Enhance and maintain relationships with internal groups as well as external contractors and clients.

- Minimum 4 years of utility-specific protection, control, and metering experience.
- Electrical Engineering Degree from a recognized university along with the ability to register as a Professional Engineer in Canada.
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required
- Experience working with BC Hydro is considered an asset.
- Experience SCADA and Automation design and implementation is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with utility protection and control maintenance and operational practices is considered an asset.
