Position Summary::
Installs and maintains propane tanks and services. Completes field service requests and provides technical expertise to others.
Criteria: Education/Experience:
High school diploma (GED) with minimum of four years of experience in gas industry. Minimum of two years of propane driving experience.
Skills/Abilities:
Excellent customer relations skills and verbal communication skills. Ability to think logically in solving problems. PC literate. Mechanical and technical skills a plus.
Certifications/Licenses:
Class B CDL minimum required and must obtain Haz-Mat and Tanker endorsement within six months of employment. Class A CDL and Master Gas Pipefitter License a plus. Must successfully complete PERC PEP Study Courses (7 modules) within one year. OSHA & DOT Hazmat training (within 90 days). OQ qualification within six months.
Physical Demands:
The ability to use a computer keyboard effectively. The ability to orally communicate by phone, radio and person to person. The ability to see and read printed material. The ability to lift, carry and use heavy tools and materials. The ability to climb and perform work from a ladder. The ability to safely operate a standard equipped company motor vehicle. The ability to operate company field service installation equipment. The ability to enter/exit 22” diameter accesses as well as work in confined spaces. The ability to work in attics, basements, crawl spaces & other similar spaces.
Work Environment:
Indoor/outdoor conditions. At risk for gas fire/explosions or electrocution. At risk for exposure to unsanitary/un-healthy & unsafe conditions. Location and work hours are determined by Management and may be adjusted as needed. Subject to on-call 24/7.
Driving:
Must have and maintain a valid Tennessee Class “B” license. Hazmat & Tanker Endorsement must be obtained within six months.
Telephone:
Must maintain an operating telephone and furnish the number to his/her supervisor.
Essential Functions:
- Interfaces with customers on construction installation or repair work.
- Interacts with customers to verify that work to be done is as requested. Evaluates customer needs. Educates on proper usage. Takes action to satisfy customers and enhance JEA’s image.
- Performs work both inside and outside.
- Responds to service calls.
- Maintains and stocks company vehicle with parts.
- Maintains tools and equipment assigned.
- Completes documentation and reports information for work performed as required.
- Follows safety guidelines and procedures.
- Builds propane meter installations.
- First responder to gas leaks and carbon monoxide calls.
- Uses electronic equipment to determine level of carbon monoxide, natural gas, or other gases present on site.
- Safely operates propane delivery truck for residential and commercial deliveries.
- Responsible for safe unloading of propane transports into bulk plant.
- Uses RCC and EZ Count software to create propane delivery routes for drivers.
- Performs limited maintenance on gas lights and grills.
- Orders gas lights, grills, and parts from suppliers as needed.
- Assists storeroom with parts inventory for grills, lights, and tank installations.
- Paints propane tanks at customer locations and bulk storage facility.
- Assists with annual propane field inventory and monthly bulk plant inventory.
- Works on-call in propane rotation.
- Follows safety guidelines and procedures according to JEA, DOT, NFPA54 and NFPA58 regulations.
- Operates all types of equipment used in the construction and maintenance of propane facilities such as, but not limited to, crane truck, motorized tank carrier, trencher, compressor, and other equipment that the foreman or supervisor designates.
- Performs minor maintenance and routine preventive maintenance on all equipment.
- Maintains all records associated with job and performs daily equipment inspections.
- Constructs and maintains designated work areas.
- Keeps all equipment clean, organized, and well maintained.
- Ensures equipment and material is safely and securely transported and stored.
- Interacts with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
- Adheres to safe excavation practices and works with crew to minimize hazards.
- Performs additional duties as requested.
