We are hiring one full-time, permanent Project Manager, Transmission Projects position working out of Edmonton, AB.
We’re seeking a Project Manager to lead and deliver a portfolio of Transmission projects and programs that support system growth and capital maintenance, as outlined in the General Tariff Application (GTA). This role involves managing budgets, securing approvals, coordinating resources, and ensuring timely, safe, and efficient project execution. The Project Manager may also support smaller AESO Direct Assign or external customer projects.
What you’d be responsible for
•Provide input to the Transmission Projects Business Plan and ensure an appropriate understanding of the GTA filing and approval process. Support Transmission Asset Management in the development and writing of the Capital Business Case documents and Post Implementation Review documents for upcoming GTA submittals
•Plan and execute Transmission projects based on the project baseline, and coordinate with stakeholders across EPCOR Distribution and Transmission Inc (EDTI)
•Develop comprehensive project governance documents (PMP, CPJS, PPR), ensuring accurate budget/resource estimates, documented assumptions, and clear scope definitions for effective reporting and variance analysis
•Initiate and oversee the project lifecycle from approved PPR to project closeout, including stakeholder management, change management, regulatory permits, engineering work packages, detailed execution plans, equipment and construction services procurement, hazCOM and preconstruction meetings, and lessons learned
•Ensure optimal use of resources by working collaboratively with other EDTI stakeholders to compare overall schedule alignment against resource availability and securing internal resources and external contractors to complete the work. Together with Transmission Scheduling and Project Controls, manage updates to all project schedules and forecasts on, at minimum, a monthly basis
•Ensure compliance with EDTI procurement, regulatory, safety, and legal requirements when hiring external contractors ensuring adequate qualifications, cost minimization, and proper contractor management. Communicating safety and environmental requirements or restrictions to all parties
•Conduct project kick-off meetings for all projects within the Project Manager’s portfolio
•Maintain open communication with crews, inspectors and contractors, and conduct site visits to document progress, proactively identify risks and issues, and ensure compliance with the approved project scope, schedule, and budget
•Perform routine safety inspections, documenting deficiencies and corrective actions
What’s required to be successful
•Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with Power System Engineering option (preferred) or equivalent P.L.(Eng.)
•Registered with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.)
•Project Management Professional (PMP) designation desired
•5+ years of progressively responsible experience in electrical transmission systems required, including direct design or construction experience
•Strong knowledge of substation and transmission line construction methods, protection and control systems, and utility project execution
•Experience in project management of complex utility construction projects required
•Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, Ivara, e-scheduler)
•Proven experience in procurement (RFPs, tendering, contract negotiation/administration), permitting, environmental assessments, and stakeholder engagement
•Skilled in managing complex budgets, schedules, and matrix-organized project teams
•Strong decision-making and stakeholder relationship management abilities
•Strong communication skills with the ability to influence others
•Collaborative team player with the ability to thrive in dynamic environments
